Swimming (masters) 1:00:00 [3]

I was kind of worried that I would drown in the pool today, upper body being still somewhat fatigued from the weekend.
Fortunately we started off with a kick set and that felt good and strong. But then we went into IM sets and everything fell apart. fly especially, but both back and breast were sllloooowwwww. Free felt much better but my wrist was really hurting! Not sure why, all i can think is that it may be a rsult of so much skiing? But by the end of the swim, and now at work, it feels fine.. so strange!
ahh, i like swimming in the morning. and espeically second breakfast afterwards!

Spinning bike 1:00:00 [3]

"endurance" spin workout. I still really like this one best out of all that i downloaded..
Legs felt strong but i kept getting distracted while watching the OWG and would have to power back up to catch up to the beat again!
Also, my upper left calf muscle was giving me some problems. Felt sort of like a knot or something. I tried stopping to stretch it out, but i fear that may have made it worse. After the workout it was still sore and especially after sitting on the couch for an hour watching TV it was very tight when i got back up! I almost couldn't even stand with my leg straight!
hope it'll be better by morning...

Weights 30:00 [3]

Strength on the bowflex.

Core strength 15:00 [1]

abs/planks etc.

Note
(rest day)

Took today off. K had a run planned instead of a swim so we just headed home after work and i got to make dinner and watch the W10k and M15k free races recorded from earlier in the day. Unfortunate about Kris and the americans not being higher up... (Tora and I skied with/against Kris Freeman when we were in high school, so there's a home-state connection.)

Skate Skiing race (Craftsbury, VT) 1:41:00 [4] 11.3 km (8:56 / km)

Oof, this was long.
Rewaxed Sat night with LF and HF7 and the skis were fast, though a bit slower than yesterday due to some new snow fallen overnight and throughout the day.
Felt ok for the first 45mins or so then started to get tired. Made a few iffy route choices (#4 and def #6) but for the most part i was pretty happy.. until i blew right past the GO control and was finished and chatting wtih Greg when i looked down at my map and realized there was a control #13.. damn! .. asked the finish guy if i could go back and get it and he said yes, so i sprinted back up the hill and punched and then cruised back down to the finish.. again. Lost only about 2.5 mins, but still... such a stupid error!
I think i was so tired after the climb to 11 and 12 that I was beginning to bonk and just wanted to get back so badly! I knew where i was and where i had to go to get to teh finish that I didn't even look at my map! Also, i was having gear malfunctions (the straps on my mapboard had come off and the whole thing was just kind of flapping around while i skied..annoying!)
Also, i broke the baseplate on one of my skis taking them off on teh way to 7, so i had to ski the rest of teh way a bit more carefully and less powerfully than i otherwise would have. oh well. minor casualties. no huge deal.
Again, 3rd to Alex and Ali... can't complain.
straight-line dist was calc'd at 11.3k, JoeB's GPS said 18.5km.. that's a lot of skiing (for me)!
Still glad that I came and raced!

Skate Skiing race (Beaver Brk Farm) 49:00 [4]

Didn't really know what to expect for conditions so i waxed up my race and rock skate skis as well as a pair of classic, just in case. LF7. Turned out to be pretty thin cover in places and with the narrow cut-through trails that were made for route choices i used my rock skate skis and they worked perfect. Added a few new dings and scrapes to the bases but they were super fast and I didn't have to worry about them too much.
Made one awful route choice error on the 2nd to last control by taking the VAST (rocky and slow) instead of a faster route straight down adn then over on a nicely groomed trail. But other than that and one other bobble coming out of 10, i felt pretty solid considering the lack of mapreading I've done over the past year!
Skiing fitness was a bit lacking as well, but also decent considering..
Ended up 3rd to Alex J and Ali C, both fantastic skiers and in great shape, so i can't beat myself up too much.
Great day overall and I'm very glad that I decided to race. Love the venue, the food and so great to catch up with everyone that I haven't seen in just about forever!

Note
(rest day)

Ended up taking today completely off... which was really nice!
Slept in, then off to work, then home, cancelled the 40min run and instead made delicious dinner and packed for ski-o.

Swimming (masters) 1:00:00 [4]

today was hard but successful! warmup then a few drills and then right into the main set.
20x100yd FrIM in sets of 3, each of which were at these desc sendoffs: 2.05, 2.0, 1.55 (100EZ), 2.00, 1.55, 1.50, 1' extra rest then 100IM for time (which was 1.31)
The successful part of the whole thing was that I was in a lane with Kate, who is a little faster than me and I was totally sucking at first and by the end of the 100yds she had more than a length on me. But, through attempts at perfecting my strokes in back and breast and working on my pushoffs i was able to reel her in and by the last 100yd i was dead even if not beating her to the wall!
This was an exhausting set for me though, by the last set of 3x100 i had only 5s rest, but i kept pushing knowing that I could make it and not be last to the wall out of all of us.
good swim session.. now onto 2nd breakfast and work.

Running 41:00 [3] 4.6 mi (8:55 / mi)

Pretty warm out tonight, 29F. Nice running weather. Ran down County Rd to Rt 10 and though i started off real slow, once i warmed up i felt like i was cruising. Not sure how fast i was actually going, since i had turned my headlamp off because it wasn't proving to be at all helpful and i had a better feel for the road without it. On the way back up (in a awfuly strong headwind) I felt really good too. Strong on the hills and cruised the flats, then took it easy once i turned onto Allagash.
Nice run, probably one of the best so far this season! (It's good to have these every once in a while to remind you why you actually do this to yourself.)

Strength 30:00 [3]

20min yoga sesh followed by some additional abs/back ups and a 1' plank.
