Cycling 2:10:00 [3] 54.1 km (2:24 / km)
shoes: Galli

Sunday AM ride with Alain. Mi Square - Van Voorhis, S on 64 to Smith to Mendon Ctr - then Bulls Sawmill - Chamberlain - Taylor - Cheese Factory & S on QMH. Across Main to Martin & S on York to 5&20 to Bragg & back up QMH.

70F, sunny, bit of a NW breeze. Orienteering today will be great.

Orienteering race 1:18:53 [5] 5.5 km (14:21 / km)

Green course at Mendon. Followed contours a lot more than trails today, as you really need to on the E side of MPP. Got most of the controls easily except for 3:

#2 got confused between "reentrant" and "spur", when I finally realized that I was looking for the reentrant, found it quickly

#5 long leg and wandered too far R to the wrong spur. Took a few minutes to compare contours and correct that error.

#9 lucky to find this one at all. Pushed through the undergrowth to the spot the flag should have been and nothing. Did a couple loops around the control circle, still nothing. At this point was starting to get frustrated, so I relocated back to the closest identifiable point, in this case a "man-made" object just outside the control circle, in this case an old garbage dump. Lo and behold, a flag right there! Check #'s and they match - very lucky since it was not where I would have looked for it.

When I got back to the Start, I noticed that the posted course notes actually pointed out that #9 was in a different spot. Would've helped if I'd read it . . .

All in all, nice day, great course, typical Mendon O-meet.

Soccer 1:30:00 [5]

I have come up with the following guttural sounds to describe tonights game against the Rovers:

Uuuugh
gleuh
rrrrrgrrgr
nnnneeeyeh

We start with only two substitutes, OK. First 20 minutes we're up 2-0. Cruising along. We go into the half up 3-1. Then we get hit with two fluky goals. Nothing is going in the net. And to top it off, in the 87th minute the ball deflects off a defender for an own goal. Yuuukkk. For some reason our home field doesn't give us much of an advantage.

Final score PUSC 3, Rovers 4
