Green course at Pineridge Cross Country Ski Area, well-set by Phil H-T

I succeeded in negotations to leave Max at home so I could run an advanced course for the first time in quite a while. Pine ridge is definitely tricky, a lot of details but more subtle than, say, Pawtuckaway or Moreau so I found it way easier to get off line and totally confused. Usually there's nothing really good to relocate from when you miss. Even the minor trails the meet notes cautioned us against were easy to find and follow.

Did fine for the most part; but missed #4 to the left and hit one of the trails, and followed it until I could locate myself. Came back and got it OK. I was happy to spike #5 but then totally messed up #6 somehow and wound up off the south edge of the map, which I only figured out by running into a rock feature that was way too big to be anything mapped. I just had to run a safety bearing north until I thankfully hit a big trail and relocated on the top of the bluff near #6. I was probably only 50m from the bag while I was on my safety bearing. Oh well.

The rest of the course was OK though #7 was damned treacherous (steep slope, very stony, lots of leaves -- even the trail way around would have been a mess). If anybody took the straight line from #8-#9 they were crazy.

A fun if frustrating run, but I guess that's why I keep coming back.
