Note

Trying to be more flexible with my training going into what will likely be the busiest season of my life (baby’s first time working 40 hour weeks + 3 classes/week + socializing & exploring DC) — going to focus on quality (speedwork, tempos, orienteering training) over quantity (sheer amount of miles)… I’m not trying to dip my mileage down TOO low because I don’t want to have to build up slow again but I am going to be flexible with the weekly total

orienteering (dnf) 1:41:19 [3] 4.1 mi (24:43 / mi)

don’t ask

Note

I am returning from war (a meet that I did bad at) and although I am excited to see my loved ones (my bed and my shower), the bond that I created with my brothers in arms (my orienteering friends) will be broken (we can text each other everyday) forevermore (for like 3 weeks)

orienteering long 2:39:58 [3] 8.47 mi (18:53 / mi) +677m 15:08 / mi

very long, very tired, my legs hurt

humbled but happy to be done

main takeaways

1 — i’ve been at BAOC for a while i know how to run up hills so i really should not be going around as much as i was; no pain no gain

2 — you’re not going to break your ankle running on slightly uneven ground, stop hopping around like a ballerina and just book it; be more unafraid

3 — even a few min of negative self talk on a route can really impact my willingness to run at all; keep it to a min

++ some gratitude: there were plenty of places i could’ve sustained a rly bad injury and everything seems intact so that’s a slay

i picked up my pace on the second half of the course! got myself out of a really tough mental rut and my mood and speed improved!

i made it back under the time limit! there were a few moments out there where i didn’t believe i would but i did! def improved from my last time here where i did a ~4-5k green in the same time.

this is the longest long i have ever done at an NRE. and i finished!

Running 12:00 [3] 1.06 mi (11:19 / mi)

Running warm up/down 18:32 [3] 1.43 mi (12:58 / mi)

warmup+cool down combined bc too lazy to log separately

orienteering race 22:29 [3] *** 2.47 mi (9:06 / mi)
ahr:165 max:181 20c

Most of the course went smooth — could have pushed it slightly faster at some places fs but happy with how much i did

2 stinky mistakes though:
#3 — probably lost >60 seconds even though AP doesn’t count it all bc so many people made the same one. i read my description, i was going the right way, and then i saw someone very confidently running to the wrong place that i had initially thought it was in and second guessed myself. that was Dumb. Lesson? Do your own damn race.

#19 — AGAIN!! I read??? The description!!?? And yet I still went to the wrong place. Because I saw the lil flower thing on my description and went wtf is that and then just ran to where it looked like on the map … prob only lost 20s but made me mad bc i could’ve avoided it
