Note

The 2002 1000-day event was my first A-meet and my first blue courses; I was out a long time. The fall of 2002 I ran blue at the US Champs in Quantico; it was a disaster. I learned that I had neither the fitness nor the skill to run blue courses competently.

In 2005 I have competently run blue at every A meet I entered. I am very happy about that.

Looking forward to the Possum Trot and then on to 2006.

Bike 30:00 [3]

Easy spin. Pleasant evening. Tired. Foot feels abused. No worries though.

US Long Champs: 22.2km w/ ~600m of climb. Due to all the stream crossings I decide it would be better to wear regular O-spikes; foot not always happy with this desision during the race. Started out easy. Was pretty tired at the aid station but pushed myself to keep the pace up. Turns out my relative speed compared to others was pretty good. Drank a lot more than at the Highlander and the weather was cooler; that helped me a survive much better. Had some stupid moments but I was better about forcing myself to slow down determine a proper plan/solution and not just run in the direction of the control. I'm most happy with this.

DVOA Day 1. Short blue. Foot felt ok on warm up so wore spikes. Really nice day. Controls are technically easy with route choice being the main challenge. Still managed to have some signifcant errors though. I didn't always make the transition from yellow to white well and would be going too fast. I'm not good about changing my pace to the conditions; I get locked into a stride and don't change.

DVOA Sprint/model event: Legs feel pretty good. Right foot that has been bothering me since 11/2 stides has me a little worried. Finish lunch about 45min before we arrived and it was a touch uncomfortable running full. Ran but didn't press. Satisfied with result. Really pretty place. Went out again after just for some more recon.
