Another great day out on the Sandy Run map exploring and updating the map. Parked at the Tannery D&L trailhead again. It's too bad that it's state game lands and open to logging - which is currently going on and who knows how extensive it will be in the future - and that there is no good parking option for more than a handful of cars. Otherwise, it would be worth it to map it properly.
I had picked a whole bunch of things from the ground return map that Greg sent me that looked like they might or might not be actual features (mostly boulders) and also a bunch of things that took me through areas that I knew needed some revisions (mostly swampy areas on the map that I didn't think were really swamps). This gave me a 30 control ~6k course that was control picky in nature. I did a bit more exploring in the first third of the course than I was expecting so that took a lot of time, but the rest of it went more or less as I figured and was a lot of fun. Everything I had picked as a control was actually there so I didn't have to do any random wandering around hoping for the app to tell me I was in the right place when there was no real feature. Whew.
I took along 1:5000 blow ups of the ground return map and marked all sorts of extra features I noticed as I went along so wasn't moving particularly fast. It's much easier to get the location of the point features right with that map since there will be shading to show where something might be so if you have roughly the right spot you can zero in on it.
The one thing that I decided I really don't have the talent or time to do right is the vegetation mapping. There are loads of beautiful hemlock groves that, if mapped accurately, would make a big difference, but that would take hours and hours of careful work. And tons of rhododendron stands that would make great control locations if mapped well.
Saw Sam and Lena who did the other courses I designed on UsynligO and Sam also raced through this course in less than an hour! Kathy Moss was also apparently there but I never saw her.
And then stopped at Dennis's for dinner on the way home. An excellent day!

Session with Kelly. She had me do flies with my head and shoulders on the ball while keeping my hips up which were hard but not too bad. But then she followed that by bridges still with my head and shoulders on the ball which were really hard, especially by the last set.

Meadow loop. It's been a while since I've done the loop. There were a lot of big trees down across the trail, most but not all of which had been sawed through. Some impressive trail maintenance there.
