Picking up some flags from last weekend's Rootstock race. Got too high right away and had to backtrack down to the first control, then climbed to the top of the ridge using the trail for the last bit. At first it was beautiful up there but then ran into mountain laurel (checked out the ridge to see if there was maybe a trail along there but there wasn't) and just bashed my way through occasionally finding an old road to follow for a bit. Got the control and then lots more mountain laurel bashing until I got to the swamp where the next control was. REALLY had trouble finding the control on the swamp even though I knew I was at the right swamp - circled it several times thinking I must have missed it. I didn't believe I had to actually go in the swamp to get the flag but I did.
Was able to take trails most of the way to the next one and then opted for the trail option back down.

The weather report was for thunderstorms in the late afternoon so I decided I wasn't going to be able to get all the others in that section so just went and got an easy one down a spur off a road.
Wandering around Green Lane Park with Bob taking notes for map updates. Bob is doing sprints there in several weeks and the map is seriously out of date.
Hanging controls for this evening's event at Germantown Academy. A fine evening and a great turnout - almost 50 starts! And Ryzhkov was finally beaten.

Despite my heart rate not being up, this was another tough class. She was late though so it was shorter than usual. Forgot to put on my knee brace and was halfway to the gym before I realized it. A few things were more painful than they would have been with the brace, but mostly it was fine since it was all about small controlled movements.
Session with trainer plus treadmill before to warm up and a few stretches afterwards because I did the dreaded yoga ball leg curls which always make my legs almost cramp right behind my knees.
