hiking 2:13:25 [3] 3.71 mi (35:58 / mi)

Hike with Ann up to Jacoby Falls, a very pretty waterfall once you finally got there. There was some activity in the woods on the way where it looked as if they were replacing a gas pipeline so a bunch of construction stuff with a roadbed on the far side of the creek we were hiking along to get there. So not quite the idyllic pristine hike we were anticipating but still a very nice outing and the falls themselves were past where all the construction stuff stopped.

Hiking with Ann Leonard near the Rootstock Racing Stockville site. Charlie and Ken are doing the race and we're just visiting. We'll meet them at the finish line tomorrow.

Boo hiss. AP didn't recognize this as something other than just hiking. I mean look at the graph - clearly I'm doing some sort of intervals, right?

Anyway, I did jog 125 paces, walk 75 for the loop. I didn't even bail when I hit the steep hill (short but steep) in the middle of 125. I now know I can go this fast which is a little scary since now on my "jogging" days - which I am going to try and do once a week on average - I will need to continue to try to hit this pace. Ah well, I suppose goals are good.

Let's see how my knees fare.

cardio 30:00 [3]

Elliptical. I should have a plan with these workouts - like maintain a certain pace, or go a certain distance, or keep my heart rate in a certain zone - but I have no idea what a good plan would be.

strength & stretching 30:00 [3]

Followed by class. My arms felt like noodles today and weights that have been fine were really difficult. I almost went and got lighter weights but settled for doing one arm at a time for some things.

On the other hand, the calf raises that everyone else felt were really hard were a piece of cake given that I do more and harder ones every morning for my Achllles.

Note

I have a very short memory. I am contemplating a several week trekking trip in Mongolia next year.

hiking 1:44:32 [3] 4.23 mi (24:43 / mi) +157m 22:09 / mi

Hill repeats. Went without poles and felt pretty good. Biggest improvement seems to be on the downs!

Note

Looking at the Harriman Goat maps I must confess to being perplexed by the skips. In the vicinity of 4-5-6, I would skip 4 (not 5 or 6) and avoid the climb down and then back up again. And I can't see what skipping 18 does - you're already up on the hilltop at 17 and there's a trail just beyond 18 to take you to 19b so what does skipping 18 get you? I would have considered skipping 20 - then 19b to 21 and in is just an easy trail run the whole way. But, I wasn't there so what do I know. It may have felt completely different on the ground.

cardio 35:00 [3]

Class was cancelled at the last minute so I did 30 mins of elliptical and then

strength & stretching 15:00 [3]

15 mins of squats and core stuff.
