orienteering 2:04:54 [4]

I slogged my way around the course - wasn't particularly fast or clean but didn't make any big errors, just plodded along. Decided quite early to just enjoy the day in the woods and things were going fine until #8. When I saw the control up on top of the boulder I was stunned. I couldn't believe they expected competitors on Brown to get up there. Had there not been a cadet there to help me up and then back down again I would never have been able to punch that control. And then there were some brutal downhills that really took their toll on my knees.

Was pretty gimpy the rest of the evening but ibuprofen helped.

Note

Looks like I'm getting a free flight (courtesy of my fabulous sister) to Italy and then London the last two weeks of June. I'll be starting in Stresa on Lago Maggiore. Any recommendations for hikes or other places to visit?

Nice run with Sandy. Ran some of the ups but walked some too.

The power went off last night at home and so my clocks were not set properly and this morning I set one clock just because the blinking was driving me nuts but I didn't set it exactly. So of course that was the clock I used to leave the house making me quite early for the rendezvous. So this is the portion of the total time I hung out at the corner stretching and warming up.

Brown course at Governor Dick. Good course by Sam - you have to get around the fenced areas and there was a long leg out and a long leg back (both with some route choice) and then the course pin-balled through the nice woods. Pretty much spiked everything although got tentative a few times as I neared the control instead of being confident. Didn't run at all until the long downhill leg at the end and then I tried to run as much of that as I could. Paying for it now.
