orienteering race 1:26:00 [3]
DVOA local event at Hickory Run. The courses were on the short side so I did the 5.2 "Red" course. The first control was a doozy in the middle of lots of cliffs in the middle of laurel; it didn't help that I forgot the map was 1:15 and not 1:10 and so I'm standing on a feature that I'm expecting to be near my control but doesn't look like what it should and thinking that it sure looks a lot like something I should have passed a while ago and it still doesn't click that I've got the wrong scale until another orienteer pops into view muttering about pace count and suddenly it all makes sense... The rest of the course was fine but I couldn't run that much - too much mountain laurel or too many ferns or rocks. I did manage to run all the roads and trails and some of the nice woods near the end. Depressing though that Clem and Wyatt were 41 and 40 minutes.

Rogaine training, aka control pickup. A nice loop of 10 controls in the woods where I'll be setting the middle distance course next year so I wandered a bit looking at features. The loop had 3 water controls early on (I didn't know) and I didn't want to dump the unopened gallons so I lugged two of them around most of the way. Perhaps I should log this as a strength workout.
