orienteering race 1:28:14 [3] 7.55 km (11:41 / km)

Red course on the new Tyler State Park map. Course setters took maximum advantage of fun little pockets of nice woods but there were long trail runs inbetween and my legs were dead. Still, a great day.

It's interesting that I seem to have lost confidence in my orienteering to some degree. I would navigate perfectly to the controls but the flags were hung very, very low and while not hidden, not always easy to spot. When I couldn't see the flag right away my first thought was always what did I do wrong - which was crazy since the navigating was really straightforward for the most part. In every case the flag was just down in the gully or reentrant and hung in a way that you couldn't see it until you at least started to climb down. But even after the first couple so that I knew the flags would be hung that way, I would still doubt my navigating first off.

biking 2:23:00 [3] 29.0 mi (4:56 / mi)

Biked out to Valley Forge and home. Thought about going out early enough to join Wyatt for his map training exercise but that didn't happen. Legs very, very tired on the way home so probably just as well.

trail 57:13 [3]

About a 45 minute run on the trails - one of the hilliest loops I've ever done, down to the creek and back up all the way to the ridge line twice on the other side in addition to all the little ups and downs and the initial down and final up on this side. Came out of the valley a few blocks from home and walked home. Not moving particularly fast but managed to keep up a jog on all the uphills exept one near the end.

running 54:14 [3]

First Tuesday night training in the Wissahickon. Clem decided tonight's routine would be intervals. Walked down using flashlights and headlamps (didn't count this part), then a 15 minute jog along Forbidden Drive to warm up. I jogged with Dasha, whose ankle/leg is still not 100%. Then about 4 minutes while we figured out how far 1 minute at not quite all out effort would be (two lampposts plus four fenceposts for me - a lot further for Clem), then 7 repeats of out and back to our marks with 1 minute recovery inbetween. My splits were 2:05, 1:53 (I didn't do the fenceposts on this one), 2:00, 1:59, 2:04, 2:09, 2:00. Then a slow jog/hike/jog back up the hill to my house to cool down. Then we had pancakes. :) Hope to make Tuesday night training a regular routine and get more people to join in.
