NAOC sprint. Again surprised by how much fun I had with this despite not running.

NAOC club really with Sandy and Karl Ahlswede. I think I started my watch about 4 minutes early. Fun, fun, fun! Even though I was walking it was still a hoot. The event was on a biathlon course so ski trails everywhere and all sorts of animal statues (targets?) just off the trails. Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this. A few small bobbles but clean to most controls.

This was sad - and I mean really sad. Three times I started looking for my control way early. Compass and pace counting used to be my forte but definitely not today! Probably about 50 minutes of errors! (Actual time was 1:51:xx but I started the watch early and forgot to turn it off right away.) This has got to be one of my worst ever outings!

NAOC Long. A fun course. Had a decent outing and placed okay given I didn't run a single step. Only one "error" where I misread up from down and got confused when I was expected up and the terrain went down and so I mucked around a bit trying to figure it out. Other than that a few hesitations and a little sloppiness but not a lot of major time lost.

Event: NAOC 2018

orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

NAOC model event. Forgot my watch so this is an estimate. The model terrain was really, really fun although I had a bid of trouble out there. The ground is very squishy and so I kept pulling up short feeling like I had gone far enough when I hadn't. I couldn't keep a decent pace count - just no focus - and that didn't help. But, I was reading the terrain reasonably well and didn't make any huge blunders so that was good. I didn't use any of the trail network but certainly will tomorrow when I can.

I also was having trouble reading the map - even though it was 1:7500!! My eyes have gotten that bad. I had my contacts in but they were somewhat useless. I'm going to go with glasses tomorrow and see what happens.

hiking 1:08:43 [3] 3.08 mi (22:19 / mi) +43m 21:23 / mi

After visiting the Wildlife Preserve and a dog sled farm this morning went for a hike out the door of the house where Valerie, Amy and I are staying. It was a nice pleasant hike in nice pleasant temps. Didn't have a clue where I was going, just kept following trails that seemed to go in a direction that seemed interesting.
