Note
(rest day)

Felt alright this morning, but now feel pretty crap. Hope it's just from the exertion in wkd, or something I ate, hopefully Ok for tio, where i'm apprently doing the long night (18km at 3am) for the LOK 3rd team. Should be fun (retrospectivly)

Orienteering race 28:30 [4] 4.6 km (6:12 / km) +90m 5:39 / km
shoes: VJ Intergrator

JK Relays
M120 + with Charles, & chris kelsey
Dipton Wood
cD4

Was annoyed I was not in team, but then the guys team didn't do that well, as our first runner lost the pack (tim!)
So after struggling with map (see note) got to 1. Only bad point was route choice to 5, where i intended to run straight got into a lot of shite, and bailed out half way too track ~ 30 s Lost time on 9 by running track ~ 10 s and 5 s by nearly overshooting 11. so 45 s all up. Got stronger as race went on. Bloody pleased,
Bet all W21Es (also W21e champs) and gave mhairi mckenzie a bit of a tow, and she got a good time. And bet clive hallet!!! but didn't really due to changeover times...

Team 11/49 I went + 7 I think

Fastest time: me by 1 s :)

Note

JK relay organisagtion

The JK had by and large been pretty good (with sunny sunny weather) up to the relays. I could have a minor grumble about some things on the first 3 days, but wont as it was generally very good. But the relay was not acceptable for an international event.

1) The busses were a complete cockup, primary level maths could've predicted this, starts delayed by an hour is shite, and i bet people missed conections after event.
2) Compelete chaos in map issue. Took about 10mins for me to get through, and i was lucky. About 100 maps unsorted in a box, I eventually saw mine and grabed it.... Other people missed there runners. Debateble whether every top 3 was the correct result, therefore whether all results should stand. I hoped someone protested for the record ( i wouldn't actually expect a result). The scandis wouldn't have this mess and have MANY MORE RUNNERS. Incoming runner should get map from board or graveyard.
3) The stickers were impossible to get off. I spent about 3 mins trying to get mine unstuck, and took a small bit of description off. Mark S had a map in 2 pieces, I saw a young child having to stop and ask a photography. Some peoople got them opened by a knife, not me. Not acceptable.

Orienteering race 1:56:35 [4] 14.8 km (7:53 / km) +520m 6:42 / km
shoes: VJ Intergrator

JK Long, UK cup, WRE
Shiellow, detchant, greensheen & cockhaugh, Northumbland

Much nicer area (south of middle area).
A bit rough early on, lost a minute at 4, which was easy and shouldn't have. Leg to 6 was excellent, bashed through straight and was nervous was going to lose time, but didn't. Caught my 3 min man at 7 Matthew Rooke and was together most of the race (he can run but his nav is a bit suss). Some knarly descent to 8. Then caught john (9min) at 11, and got very confused, and lost time. So then me driving a pack, with john abusing me at 14. Hard work heather descent to 15. Then track run to 17. Lost time on 19, I was tiring, and took ages to get out, and then we all missed it. By this time had another irish runner.
Then lost time at 25 (bad plan) and 26 (bad map), and really struggling with distance through to end, but managed to hold matt off. Probably about 4-5 mins of mistakes all up. Just needed to squeez out 30 s to beat tim. I was a bit lucky i was running with others, as i go better under pressure.

So quite pleased. 764 WRE points, now ranked 335 :)

Orienteering race 52:26 [4] *** 5.4 km (9:43 / km) +260m 7:50 / km
20c shoes: VJ Intergrator

JK Middle, UK cup, WRE
Kyloe Hills, Northumburland

This was the middle, and we made it our team selection for the relays.
Felt slow to start with, had trouble with green on way to 2, and in ciricle. First big mistake on 4 - 55 s, then 10 1.30 s and 12 2.00s
Then got caught by my 2 min man, and picked up quite a bit through to finish.
Really shite race, found the vegetation hard to interpet. There would've been tracking and man shaped holes latter on too. Finished last of bristol boys so not in relay team, so was annoyed. My worst WRE point score ever.

Time 52.26
Winner Oli J 34.47

Orienteering race 20:24 [5] *** 3.2 km (6:22 / km) +10m 6:17 / km
spiked:26/27c shoes: f-lite 335

Jk Sprint Newcastle Uni & Park

Pretty good run, no indivaul mistake over 10 secs. Quite easy though, and sprints aren't really my thing. Nice enough area I thought. Maybe too many 50/50 route choices, which didn't matter.
Got a win past most of the bristol boys not dr bone, but bet tim

20.24 + 3.54 52/130

Winner Ross Morison !! 16.30

Orienteering 45:00 [3]
shoes: X-talons

Team monday tech training - Sallowvallets.
Routechoice exercise with Tom, and matt. Run 3 different ways and argue over which way is best before and after. Threw up some intresting results. Great exercise, and not one that i had specifcally done before.

Orienteering 30:00 [2]
shoes: X-talons

More tech training, doing a course in collecting in several controls, at a very relaxed pace.
