Orienteering race 1:00:00 [3]

Brown Clee National Event - M35.
I wasn't up for this beforehand because I'd hurt my calf yesterday and I knew the area wasn't very exciting. One look at the map and I knew I was going to retire - boring open hill running for the majority. After losing 12 minutes at no 1 - the same control that the elite girls struggled with I think I had decided not to bother with the boring stuff. Stayed on the top fell and then orienteered through the wood, allowing plenty of time to watch the elite races progress. They had it tough!

Run warm up/down 30 [3]

Orienteering race 18:09 [5] * 2.9 km (6:16 / km) +50m 5:46 / km
ahr:171 max:184

UK Cup Final Sprint race.
Shrewsbury Town.
Ran hard and was reasonably clean but too many straight running sections for me to be at the top end. One or two dithers that lost me about 30 seconds but other than that a lung buster. 40th placed.

Orienteering race 51:00 [5] 6.1 km (8:22 / km)

UK Cup Final Middle Race
Weston Heath.
Brilliant little area - would be perfect for an April race, but a bit unfair for a June race. Bracken head-high in a lot of places and although tracks had been battered down it was always going to go faster later on. I was a bit scrappy and hesitant on some legs and then dead tired over the last half so going backwards on the hills. Nevertheless a decent result because navigation was required! 29th.
Doug winning at no 7! Shame about no.9 cos he would have been top 5 for sure.

Run 45:00 [4]

Run from work across golf course to Braeval and along the Yellow Walk to Malling Forest and back. Mainly forest tracks, some were a bit too undulating! Good views of Gargunnock Hills and Lake of Menteith.
Could still feel last night's pie.

Orienteering race 42:29 [5]

FVO WEE at Barr Wood.
I was never gonna beat Doug's time but I thought I'd have a go!
Unfortunately, I got well caught out by the crag near the wall (unfair control methinks) and was so miffed by how much time I'd lost I muffed the next one too. After the my heart wasn't in it and I wasn't feeling so fresh.
hey ho - damn good terrain to be in.

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Short warm up and then some control collecting.
Pirnhall Inn after.

Run 1:15:00 [3]

A most pleasant FVO Soup and Run from Roger & Dawn's at Braco.
A fabulous weather evening and some great terrain (especially the natural Scots Pine part!). Runs like this make you feel great!
