Skiing 57:30 [3] 14.71 km (3:55 / km) +80m 3:48 / km
ahr:139 max:153

GN. Stuck in a rut … which is scary when carrying a lot of speed on icy downhills. Need some fresh snow to soften this big icy base.

But we are skiing and lots of ski areas are closed so i’ll take it.

3 PM

Yoga 10:00 [3]

another half yoga session then watched tour de ski final stage.

Note

With no race goals again in 2023 the plan is to do the same as 2022 but add in more intervals or fartlek. ie same hours goals in 2023 as 2022.

2022 Training Summary (hours goal/actual)

Total: 450/451
O/AR/Run: 75/70.5
Skiing: 125/136.5
Paddling: 50/70.5
Strength: 75/76
Cycling: 125/93

Some thoughts:

Skiing was most training hours in 2022 by discipline. Likely will be again in 2023. Need to ski in more areas than just GN. Skiing is hard but I really enjoy it.

Cycling <75% of goal in 2022. AFter buying an expensive gravel bike that was a big oops. I need to add long gravel rides to training. I also should do more indoor cycling in winter. My bike is Zwift ready but I don't think it is for me. I'll start with some youtube spin workouts. Goal is to do my first ever century (metric). Longest ever so far is 75-80'ish km. Longest in 2022 was 50km with Chris L.

O/AR/Run: Will do what the knee can handle but given I was told I would never run again 15 years ago I'll take what I can get. Biggest knee issues seems to be when when doing fieldwork in steel toed boots. But fieldwork is a big part of my job so can't do much about that. Less pain running up steep hills. Maybe do that more. I probably should pick a few O races as goals. Nationals in QC? M21 in middle, M45 in long, skip sprint.

Strength: It is what it is. I know its important but after 15-20 minutes I'm bored though workouts at the Papa Jim help. Will try to improve the quality here. Maybe shorter workouts with higher quality and more often to reduce the boredom factor will help.

Yoga: Quickly realizing this is very important to maintain especially when doing lots of skiing. Need to build into weekly schedule.

Paddling: 75+ hours in 2022! I've set 50 as the goal but this is so much fun I suspect that this will be my fave summer training as there are a few more lakes and routes I want to explore.

Arrowhead ski before driving to the Hammer. Arrowhead trails are hillier but faster than GN trails. But GN is prettier.

The warmth in Europe is absolutely crazy at the moment. Was just reading some academic tweets summarizing this heat event and I made the mistake of reading the comments. As bad as the anti-vax community has been on social media about covid disinformation they just aren’t in the same league as those that deny anthropogenic climate change. The head in the sand anti science anthropogenic climate change denialists’ comments and explanations are absolutely bat shit crazy.
