warm up

Orienteering 20:00 [3]

sprint. fun race. Hammer 2 - Sudden 1

Woohoo! Canada easily wins Bjorn Kjellstrom Cup on the strength of Emily Kemp's four golds! Since 1980 Canada has won the BK Cup 15 times to only 4 for the US but the US had won the previous 3 in a row.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

easy jog on the model map, higher pace on the warmup map and full out running on the warmup map looking for my SI (with Mark Adams assisting) while I was supposed to be in the start call up. Ended up missing my start.

At least I didn't have to listen to the "annoying chatter" and stand in unnecessary extra lines in the start call up.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

NorAm Champs Middle distance. Misplaced SI during warmup so missed my start by just over a minute and was worn out about half way into the course. I started well even though I was in panic mode having spent energy BEFORE the race started and gave all the competitors 65'ish seconds. Spiked all of the early controls but got pulled down the hillside on the way to #6 while I was fiddling with trying to clear the fogging of my glasses. Ended up just putting them away and running somewhat blind given the dark forest. With the exception of a few small hooks and a poor route to #15 I had a good run. Unfortunately the missed start cost me silver and maybe gold. Doesn't matter though as I really enjoyed the terrain and despite tired legs running up hills I'm just pleased I was able to race knee pain free.

Dartmouth College is beautiful. Would make a great place for a research leave though it made me think of a recent song by the Hamilton band the Arkells. I'm also reminded that I never got an interview when I applied to a job there many years ago. No hard feelings (but yeah I did check how the career of the person they did hire was going - not great BTW). Seriously no hard feelings. ;-)
