US Champs. I ran masters today and being sick and injured I wasn't expecting much of a performance but the orienteering was rather fun and that is better than vitamin I for a sore body. The course had lots of rough compass and map reading but maybe only 2-3 CP's had precision stuff (CP features used were generally quite big). Fell badly on the way to #4 and considering quitting because the right knee (the good knee) was really hurting. Missed #5 and decided to quit but when I noticed how far it was to the finish I decided to be careful and just run the rest of the course. Generally slowed down at that time (except when I had the battle of gimpy orienteers with Boris) but had lots of trouble with the knees on the really steep ending to the course. Once I finished the knee swelled up badly so tomorrow is doubtful as I can hardly walk right now. Not sure of the results (I was 58) but I could have run sub 54 today (lost 2 minutes with errors and another ~ 2 minutes lost by slowing down because of knee pain).
Great lunch afterwards with AG!, Griz and NewPatrick at the Chocolate Mill.
pouring rain, slick slopes, dark in the forest, lotsa mud, cold and many kids were having a great time running and laughing in the forest. Nice job Patrick!
