Orienteering race 57:08 [4] 4.5 km (12:42 / km) +115m 11:15 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

Park Wood, Bradenham & Naphill. Terrain was a cross between Eccy Woods & Sutton Park.
Stomach didn't feel great before I started, and struggled to get going.
Felt really scrappy & bitty & never comfortable with the area or the map.
Time losses at:
no 3 - saw my control but decided I wanted to be at the end of the clearing, not in the middle, but it wasn't particularly distinctive woodland between the 2 clearings.
no 7 - so close, but hit the path behind and went right to relocate
no 19 - within feet of the control, but it was on the floor behind a fallen tree, so kept thinking it'll be behind the next thicket etc, until I turned my brain back on and relocated
no 20 - saw the pit it was in, but it was hung so low I never saw it & got distracted by others punching at another control
Why, on massive depressions did they hang the control high up on the edge of them, but on fiddly features surrounded by holly, they were hidden?
Over 7 minutes of mistakes was never going to put me on the podium, and I think I probably ought to do more training to earn my place there, too!
Was a little disconcerting to hear Hols on the commentary while I was out running!

Orienteering race 19:38 [5] 2.9 km (6:46 / km) +25m 6:29 / km
shoes: Walshes

Sprint qualis around the accommodation area. Fun. Just wanted to make it into the A final (& beat Steph, who was in my heat and starting a minute behind me). Achieved both.

and turn the map over...

Orienteering race 17:46 [5] 2.8 km (6:21 / km) +30m 6:01 / km
shoes: Walshes

Grrrrrrr
All went a bit wrong :(
Thought there was a way through to 6, but there wasn't, assumed there was a way through to 8, but it was a long way round, didn't see the anti-clockwise way around to 11, then got really peed off by everyone cutting through the obvious fence to 17.
Ho hum, with a perfect, clean run, I may have made 3rd, but ought to just happy to have made A final really! Don't think I've ever done 6.21min/km before...

Walshes have gone in the bin...
Fun afterwards trying to help Chris work out what on earth was happening for the commentary!

Orienteering race 21:30 [4] 2.7 km (7:58 / km)
shoes: Adidas Durano

Arrived in a bit of a flap - had only got 15 minutes before start closed to complete the first course and had apparently left my O box behind and had intended to run in Walshes, but decided I didn't have time to change footwear!
Actually ran OK considering!!
Planning ahead was good and was trying hard to get back with a chance of running the B course to make the journey over value for money...
No oomph on the ups, no surprise there!!
Also forgot my Garmin!!

Orienteering race 14:30 [3] 1.6 km (9:04 / km)
shoes: Adidas Durano

Woo, they let me start!!
5 minute turn around, so was surprised how reasonable my legs felt when I started!
Being so late, I hadn't had the advantage of watching others start, so headed off the wrong way to no 1.
A couple of dodgy route choices, but all the short legs were a contrast to the A course, and it was still good fun.
Not the last to finish :)
Well worth coming over and it got me out of the WHS Spring Concert!

Orienteering race 22:51 [4] 2.8 km (8:10 / km)
shoes: Walshes

Domination sprint.
After 45 minutes and a tour of Tamworth car parks (not to be recommended!!), arrived over 30 minutes late, so was grateful to be allowed to run. Wonder if some people never found it at all?
Ran hard all the way - legs struggling after yesterday, but was pleased with the planning ahead & flow, & a good result and a few scalps (but not Kelvins!!).
Only oops really was no 18 - knew I wanted the right hand of the 2 controls as I turned from 17. Allan had put in a dummy 3rd control which was further right again, and I couldn't see the left hand control, so went to the wrong one first. Not a big time loss (it didn't make the difference between me & Kelvin, anyway...).
First time someone's offered me a fight while running!
