Orienteering race 41:14 [3] 4.2 km (9:49 / km) +75m 9:01 / km
shoes: VJs

W40 relay 2nd leg after Carol & before Alison.
No excuses to stop running, just had no oomph.
One slight mis-bearing that I corrected fairly well/quickly (no 3), no 4 wasn't working (tried both boxes and had to punch the map, others seem to have made it work for them...) and no 5 I was heading for spot on, then got distracted by others having a faff.
Best bit of the day was seeing Hols on the podium with Alfie & Joe having finished third in the mini-relay, closely followed by seeing Gemma, Matt & Meg on the podium in 3rd on the junior Ad Hoc :)

Orienteering race 1:17:07 [3] 4.8 km (16:04 / km) +130m 14:09 / km
shoes: VJs

Green course at BOC.
Man, that was orienteering! Brutal!
It was the definition of not my kind of terrain, impossible to run thru', a fight all the way. Knew if I was struggling, lots of others would be struggling, too, but could just see Mark powering his way thru' and knew I had no chance.
Also got stomach cramps from no. 8, which didn't help.
Turns out the forest got one over Mark and he twinged his groin and had to slow it down... Pretty gutting to hear from Chris as I finished that he only beat me by just over 3 minutes!
Think I would probably have won 40S, but been well down on 40L. Happy I was on green.

Run 1:01:51 [3] 7.35 km (8:25 / km) +118m 7:47 / km
shoes: VJs

Thursday night run from Penkridge Bank. Missed the group starting, but we met up and it pushed me to go a bit harder. Some re-grouping (good chance to let me get my breath back). Muddy and soggy, good fun.

Mountain biking 3:14:00 [3] 21.44 km (9:03 / km) +314m 8:26 / km
shoes: SPDs from Bryan

The old Roman Road from Slaidburn over Salter Fell to Wray. Wow! Empty, fab views, nice descents, technical loose bits and some wicked climbs. Learned on Sunday that Hols is better than me, so just let her power it on her little bike while I walked/pushed some of the steeper bits. Loved being out there, it really felt like the middle of nowhere, and a fab garden centre cafe at the end for me & Hols to wait while Stodge went back to get the car (he left us at the first signs of civilisation at High Salter, so missed out on the steepest climb, but he had dropped us off 2 km or so from the YHA to miss out some of the climb, too).
And it stayed dry all the way, despite the weather forecast being for wet, wet, wet.

Fab weekend of outdoors fun, plenty of exercise, very few people around, stunning scenery, an old-fashioned YHA and an eclectic mix of people. Brilliant :)
