8.00 start time *!?*, first into the forest *!?*, *!?* again. I don't do before 8am, never mind starting at 8am after a 3km walk to the start after a 25 minute bus ride. Alarm at 5.40am. Last time I was up at that time voluntarily was....never!
1st control - steady on a bearing, not good visibility, but found it hiding well behind a bush in the pit.
2nd control - going well, but then it stops making sense. Try relocating at a control on a boulder next to a midge-infested marsh where the buggers are biting. To confirm I'm right, over hill, steep down, big boulder, stream, OK, sorted, over marsh, onto spur, all the way down to to the end *!?* not there, so back up, 7 there it is.
3rd - bearing, green, hill with knoll, ooh - boulders off to right, no; people over there, no; people coming from over there, pretty much on origingal bearing. Muppet!
No 4 - bearing. Will hit open/track/stream at some point. Hit open, Christ it's manky! Battle through & bounce back off road into control.
No 5 - veg boundary corner, off on a bearing wary not to lose too much height so don't lose enough & bounced back off stream.
No 6 - contoured around but struggled with close contact near the circle & more "happened across it" rather than hitting it.
No 7 - got to attack point & ended up relocating off the ditch below. Not concentrating on simple stuff & losing confidence in myself.
Summary: V physical until half way to 8, ran v little. Can't remember ever being so little in contact & struggling with so many controls!
Need to:
1) Trust (and follow) bearings
2) Be less distracted by others
3) Have a definate plan
4) Be more confident
5) More definate just outside circle
