Hang Lake 8k trail run
Holy moly mud!

Road shoes were so not the right choice, despite at least 1.5 miles of the trail race being on pavement. The rest was on very clay-y super slippery mud. So the mode of making forward progress was lilting from side to side on the trail, getting grips on the edges or any roots present. The mild up and down hills especially presented problems. Grabbing onto shrubbery also helped, but then sometimes it was spikey.

Ate it once hard pretty much as soon as I turned off the road onto the mud. Then hard again over the first peeled-pulp-log bog bridges on the frisbee golf course - some log-shin impact. Also ran smack into a guy going anti-parallel, somehow we both stayed upright.

4th overall, first woman by I think a bunch. But yeah, next time, inov8s!

Running 57:15 [2] 7.54 mi (7:36 / mi) +115m 7:15 / mi

Normal Springwater-Oaks Bottom loop. Nice enough morning, didn't want to go first thing, but snuck it in before the Math/Physics gender minorities brunch.

Roundabout cycle to get a nicer ride and more distance on my way to go see Interstellar with Tiffany at the science museum. Totally loved it. Pretty much the minimal amount of science-cringe associated with a movie that features time travel. And featuring our inability to merge gravity with quantum mechanics as a crucial problem is pretty awesome. But- does *any* time travel violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics?

Hoyt Arboretum Zero-O

Yay first Zero-O of the season! Bopped across the river, avoiding most of rush hour, but then took a wrong turn. Ah well, made it in time to go sprint and then hang out for a bit and then collect controls. Hilly! Lots of contours on that map! And a nice little butterfly loop.

Also, nerd brag: heard David Griffiths lecture to our Advanced E&M class today on why the Lorentz force isn't broken despite some claims in the literature. Hidden momentum is cool and gotta remember it's there!

Took the opportunity to ride with some other Reed folks - Suzy and Derek from bio, Albyn the statistician, and Sarah, math Kyle's partner. Nice loop, but slower pace than I would have gone on my own. But my bike makes the most funny noises. Need a tune up, probably a new chain. And then maybe to actually take care of it!

Looking rainy over the weekend and Administration committee didn't have a long meeting today, so snuck on out. Found a hill! Missed the earlier exit onto the bike path on the return though, will have to look out for that next time!

Running 44:13 [2] 5.78 mi (7:39 / mi) +89m 7:18 / mi

Escaped for midday run! Counter-clockwise Springwater-Sellwood loop, with some short intervals mixed in because I haven't done them in ages. So 5 x (1 min on, 1 min off, 2 min on, 2 min off). Saw other physics prof Johnny on the bike path. And bookstore manager Ueli (Swiss, knows what orienteering is) on his bike, also on the bike path. Small worlds!

Strength 12:02 [1] 0.11 mi (1:49:25 / mi) +1m 1:46:24 / mi

And even snuck in core! Then Moosewood sweat potato and black bean burrito before in for office hours, thesis meeting, AstroBites and division meeting!
