Ali's Sprint @ Tufts

After the jog over with the group (me, Alex, Ed, Caroline, Cristina, Dean, Katia, Giovanni), started everyone 30s apart, which necessitated me starting last. A-ok, had everyone to try to chase down! I had planned this course, so wasn't too tricky, but still had to think while executing.

Brendan's Sprint @ Tufts

Longer and trickier! You really had to read your control descriptions on this one! Under bridges, on upper/lower side of fences, good training! Almost almost had Giovanni, after a different route choice to 3rd to last, but we were moving too similar speed. Katia was moving really fast too, almost keeping up with us!

Running back to scrumptious Easter brunch chez Brendan. Mmmmmm. Might have to acquire a waffle iron sometime down the road...

NEOC Prospect Hill, Green

Pretty good run around, although thoroughly nemisised by 4 minutes! Ian got me on every single control actually! But I think my race went pretty well, some not super-spryness going up the big hills physically and a few smallish mistakes, the most time-costly was just not seeing the ruin at #4 despite being only 20m away and thus super confused about where I might be...

My route choices might have not been brave enough, opting more for around than over...

NEOC Prospect Hill, Yellow

Despite really unhappy ankle blisters, decided I should be tough and go run the yellow as a sprint. But this wasn't super-smart because the bad blisters on the left side were actually being caused by my brace having issues (need to re-sew a bit of it). So then, during the sprint, actually managed to roll my left ankle with the brace on. Not cool! But not a terrible roll, just a bit more pain.

Nice day of orienteering out! Thanks to Dean and all others who helped!

Orienteering 14:47 [1] 1.31 mi (11:17 / mi) +35m 10:25 / mi

Somewhat exciting control pick up, as I approached my first control to pick up there was a guy standing right at it with two biggish white fluffy dogs. I told him to pardon me, but I needed to take that thing down, pointing at the control, not expecting him to understand what I meant by 'control'. So then he asked if I were taking them all down, I explained yes, they were part of a running-race type even this morning. Then he said something like, "Oh, so they're not part of some building project? Ya know like over at place X where they are doing Y. I thought they might be, so I was taking them up and putting them in trashcans. There's one in that one over there and one just down the hill that way."

Righty. I pointed out the little yellow thingy on them that explained they belonged to NEOC, an orienteering club, and the phone number he could have called to find out what the heck they were doing there, but he didn't seem that apologetic, or like he was sorry he just missed that obviously there piece of info. At least he told me where he threw out the controls I was supposed to collect!!

Noonie run - long Puffers, extra trails at the far end, beautiful running day! Good group, Sanjay, Rob, Paul, Glen. Legs were still tired, right hamstring less complain-y than yesterday, but both groin muscles instead and the quads still. Ok legs, listen, you're going to have to get used to this running business!

Morning run around last fall's Norwottuck Northeast course.

Some issues with beginning control pick, did one or two over again when I thought it was more my fault than the maps. Boulder at 10? Longer legs went ok, but I wasn't really flying through the woods, legs still tired from 5k.

A bit lower visibility than Harriman/BM, good to start to think about things turning less visible, the leaves are coming on out!!

Running 12:54 [2] 1.72 mi (7:29 / mi) +28m 7:07 / mi

Grabbed a ride with Sanjay over to Noho, entered the race and then out for a warm up, around the outer loop. Oh yeah, there's a hill. Good to remember that. =)

Drills 5:14 [1] 0.36 mi (14:33 / mi) +1m 14:25 / mi

Noho 5k #1

Not so bad! Was a bit scared to find out how out-of-shape I was, but turned out running a 18.23, only 12 seconds off my PR on this course from last season. Ok, so the conditions were perfect, nice cool temp, no wind, hard surface, no mud. But still, I'm happy that the legs can still run!

Oh, but the most exciting thing was another girl who wasn't too far back. Was quite surprised to peek behind on the turn through the first lap and see a ponytail fairly close. Eep! Ok, can't drop the pace... so kept it up, got another peek before heading up the big hill, she was still there, no letting up allowed! Fun to feel like I had to race, probably had her by 15s or so, unfortunately not quite local enough to train with, she lives up in Northfield, but hope she comes back down for some more of these!

Also, age record time of 17.59 (or was it 57?) has gotta be in the sights... I have until August.

Running 12:52 [2] 1.42 mi (9:04 / mi) +21m 8:40 / mi

Warm down of shorter loop (including upper bit) with Sanjay, Kelsey Allen, and Barry Auskern. They were all trying to convince me to run Sisters, but West Point calls.

Oh, and perhaps allergy season has started? Else I'm coming down with a cold. But I think feels like allergies...

Running 47:15 [2] 5.66 mi (8:21 / mi) +98m 7:56 / mi

Emily Dickinson Loop, new variation - instead of heading south into the bird-feeder meadow, headed north of the bike path, which took me up a big hill. Or at least it felt big today, legs were quite sluggish. Nice to have more variations! But yeah, pretty tired from weekend's adventures! Will try to do the local 5k tomorrow, it's the first of the season. Anyone else game?

Strength 4:00 [1]

Hammies, figured if I recommend them to cure other's hamstring ills, I should keep up my own medicine... =) But I was wimpy and only did sets of 12.
