Running (Recovery) 35:00 [1]

Just a run to 7-Eleven for some provisions for going orienteering all day tomorrow! Also served as a warm up for some core strength.

Strength (Core) 16:00 [2]

Abs, back, push-ups, even a few dips this time!

Running long 1:45:00 [2]

Up my normal mountain, up another little peak right behind it, then down, down, down into Kiyasoto, the town in the next valley. I got confused about whether I should take this trail by the river on the way back, and so ended up running back on the highway, because I had to be sure to be back on time to meet my co-investigator for lunch. A very good run. I surprised quite a few Japanese hikers however, it being Saturday

Running warm up/down 45:00 [2]

Running tempo (5k pace) 10:00 [4]

Running intervals 8:30 [5]

A mixed interval running workout. I wanted to run on flats today, to keep some speed for the varsity athletics match where I'll be running the mile or 5k. So I did a 10 tempo at 5k pace, two 2 minute hill intervals, two 2 minute track intervals, and one all-out 25 second sprint. Was planning on doing another sprint for speedwork, but my left quad was starting to be a bit unhappy, and I refuse to injure myself!

Apparently there's a PA system for this entire valley nestled inbetween giant mountains. Recordings of bells go off at 6am, noon and 6pm every day, and at 12:15 someone talks for about 15 minutes. I have no idea what about, but during my warm up today, I ran right past the speakers during the lunch time announcement- it was very, very loud!!

Running 1:15:00 [2]

Up the nearby mountain in the snow! About 6 inches at the top. Beautiful! But the snow definitely made it a more challenging run. I wiped out twice, and wasn't being too aggressive with it. After the mountain, ran into town to go food shopping. Stocked up on noodles for the weekend when they don't have the cafeteria open.

Running 1:05:00 [2]

Was planning on going for a flat run, but the top of the nearest mountain looked really tempting with the fresh centimeter of snow on it, so I went up there. It was worth it- totally gorgeous! Did a little extra running on flats on the way back. Worked on reading maps while running, which of course meant I tripped and fell once on the way down!!

Running warm up/down 44:00 [2]

Running intervals (Track) 16:00 [5]

Not really 'track' intervals, but simulating them in an empty ski resort parking lot at around 1400m elevation. Did 4 x (2 laps, 30 s easy jog, finish the 3rd lap). Two laps took around 2:45, so roughly 800m, the 'finishing the 3rd lap' took ~50 seconds, so roughly 300m. It was also snowing while I did these intervals!!!! Does not bode well for observing tonight...

Strength (Core) 14:00 [2]

10min abs + more core and pushups. Today was my 18 hour observing day after 4h of sleep. So much time inside the observatory!!!!
