Running 26:05 [3] 2.1 mi (12:24 / mi) +47m 11:36 / mi

Thursday Apr 29, 2021 #

Note

Do feel like crap the day after Pfizer #2. Guess it's mostly the headache.

Gotta get M's passport today anyways, just in case traveling to Canada this summer is possible/wise!

Wednesday Apr 28, 2021 #

10 AM

Cycling 31:36 [1] 7.57 mi (4:10 / mi) +24m 4:08 / mi

Parking at the convention center was terrible last time, so biked, which was lovely. However, bike parking was *full*! Luckily, someone was leaving just as I showed up. Way quicker than last time, guess they've sorted the logistics better. Report is that they are vaccinating 1,100/hr.

Cycling 41:43 [1] 8.54 mi (4:53 / mi) +131m 4:40 / mi

Back along Springwater.

Running 31:26 [1] 2.74 mi (11:28 / mi) +52m 10:50 / mi

Yay! This counts as running, because was more than half jogging!

14 x 1m15s jogging, 45s walking. Extended the 45s once to not have to run downhill.

Felt good! Excited! But tomorrow will be cross-training and then probably a day off or some easy strength if I'm feeling crummy (2nd Pfizer tomrorrow!).

Note

Psyched to have US Champs at Tahoe in ~3.5 months! Totally makes sense that it's not time for NAOCs. We're hoping to get up to our cabin in Ontario this summer, but we'll just have to see if that's allowed.

Anyways, here's a plan for trying to get in shape for US Champs. Hopefully it starts conservatively enough, will have to edit if any injuries resurface...

5k time trials or races:
May 9th < 30 min
May 23rd < 27 min
June 6th < 25 min
June 20th < 23 min
July 4th < 21.5 min
July 18th < 20 min

I'd also like to be able to work up to 10 mi total sometime before August, since there's a long as part of US champs, after all...

Will see how it all goes!

Had another interruption to trying to get back to running - woke up Mon night with a terrible neck strain that didn't let me jog for a bit... argh!

10 AM

Hiking 26:38 [1] 1.58 mi (16:51 / mi) +47m 15:26 / mi

Alright!! Back to attempting to run, *super* gradually. Today was 6 x 30s, uphill so as to minimize impact. Felt fine during, feel fine immediately after. Hopefully will continue to feel fine!

So want to know what summer will be like, my type-A-ness is finding it so hard not to plan. But NAOCs is still up in the air and so is our ability to go to the cottage in Canada for a second summer. And very spoiled that these are my worries in the middle of a pandemic. Brought home a little bit because the best friend of a work colleague just died from Covid in Kazakhstan (age 40). Covid still isn't a thing to mess with. (6 days from first Pfizer shot here, Tom will get his on Sunday.)
1 PM

Hiking 32:55 [1] 1.66 mi (19:50 / mi)

Stroller walk to library and back. So grateful to have a library 0.9 mi away!

Monday Apr 12, 2021 #

2 PM

Hiking 30:15 [1] 1.33 mi (22:45 / mi) +46m 20:34 / mi

Sunday Apr 11, 2021 #

9 AM

Orienteering 1:19:45 [1] 2.36 mi (33:48 / mi) +10m 33:20 / mi

Longer set of vetting 10 controls. More to potentially move to other sites, so that took longer too... still such a blast to be out there, although should have put on sunscreen. (Didn't get burned, but still, UV at altitude.)
3 PM

XC skiing 27:25 [1] 2.31 mi (11:52 / mi) +87m 10:38 / mi

And.... who can resist a final ski of the season? Def spring conditions which caused my first fall of the season.

First day of skiing was two weeks before Thanksgiving in Nov. Today will be the last in April. That's nearly 6 months! (Although, did have a good 2 month break in the middle b/c of illness/giving birth.)

Saturday Apr 10, 2021 #

11 AM

Orienteering 49:17 [1] 1.62 mi (30:25 / mi) +20m 29:20 / mi

Woo! Orienteering!!!!!!

So psyched to get out there, even if at walking pace! Scouting control sites for my day of Deschutes Daze (Sun, Aug 1, at Arnold Ice Caves). Open sagebrush on flatish volcanic lands. Will be fast and potentially very hot.

Friday Apr 9, 2021 #

Hiking 33:28 [1] 1.73 mi (19:21 / mi)

Faculty governance morning, nice to get out on a gorgeous afternoon with M in the stroller to return a library book before two thesis meetings.

Thursday Apr 8, 2021 #

Hiking 42:49 [1] 2.18 mi (19:39 / mi)

Dropped off milk at the milk bank and then stopped at a nearby park for a stroller walk with M. Trail went around some wetlands which were filled with birds. I have no ear for bird calls, but it was clear that there were many, many different types!

Wednesday Apr 7, 2021 #

Hiking 33:12 [1] 1.83 mi (18:09 / mi) +47m 16:49 / mi

Little neighborhood walk, feeling ok!

Monday Apr 5, 2021 #

9 AM

Hiking 10:47 [1] 0.61 mi (17:40 / mi)

Feel able to walk around the house without pain, so this was just a super-short walk to test it out. Headed to the blue mail box to mail in M's birth certificate request.

Note

Man, it's been rough! I had a blast orienteering last Sat, just walking a fun score-O course from Tony. I was really sore afterwards, which maybe made me tweak another muscle on Tuesday. I'm now almost better from that, but awkward walking while that muscle hurt super-bad has put strain on my pubic symphsis joint, which is now hurting. Arrrrrgh!!!

So frustrating. And just painful. Walking into/around lab yesterday was really painful and probably didn't help healing. But I think I gave away my crutches from last major injury.... here's hoping this one isn't as bad (don't think it is, hopefully I'll be able to walk without too much pain in another day or so).

Good news- scheduled for a vaccine next Wed at the Oregon Convention Center! I must have been pulled out of the Group 7 lottery really early, Tom is still waiting. Psyched the studies show antibodies will pass on to Martin too. Now can I just sub some breastmilk in for Sylvia's breakfast milk and cover both of them to some degree? (I think if there were a Covid outbreak in her classroom, I might actually try to do this...)
