orienteering race 20:00 [4] ***
12c
Sprint orienteering at Sar-Ko-Par park in Lenexa. Dean H. set the course. I had a little bobble at one control when I ran right by it and had to stop and turn around. I lost time from the pacing. I had a hard time holding the right pace without going too hard. The heat makes it harder for me to pick the right effort. It was easy to go a little too hard.
I fell at one marker. I came in expecting to be able to punch and move on without really breaking stride. But, my foot lost traction and instead of moving smoothly through the control I went flying/falling and nearly pulled the control stand down.
After the orienteering, we had a picnic and then the annual PTOC meeting.
A highlight was visits from Linda C (Paul's wife) and Grafton. We had a ncie chat about the old days when Peggy was in Lawence. We also had a good chat about these days and how orienteering seems the same as it did back in the 1980s. Grafton is living in Texas and was in town to visit his daughter and grand daughter.
Fun day, but a few degrees cooler would have made it more fun.
