GAOC green at FDR. Fun but hot.
Tired from the first few steps - the first control was a short leg with 5 lines of climb.
I was running steadily, if not quickly, and was orienteering reasonably well. I've been focusing on keeping my head up. I do that always, but I've been doing some extra training on that the last few months. It seemed to pay off in the open forests on this map. I spotted a number of the controls from a long ways off. It is fun when you spot a control and you can tell that another runner in front of you hasn't yet seen it.
I got a bit turned leaving the next to last control. I knew I was heading to a road, got a bit turned, and then just ran to the road. That wasn't so good.
There were a lot of long times on the day. I think the warm temps explains some of the trouble (mid/upper 70s). Robin S told me they had some people with heat/dehydration problems. The terrain from 7 to 10 is a bit unusual and might have caused a few mistakes, too.
