Orienteering race (Easter 3 Day - Day3) 1:44:00 [4] *** 8.0 km (13:00 / km) +310m 10:53 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw - spikes

Felt good through this one which was weird as went out late and got the full heat of the sun. Running strongly to Control 7 where I stopped too early on teh side of a hill and went boulder checking for 10 mins or so. After that felt lethargic until 15 where I sped up for some reason and started flowing. Then came teh complkex loop near the finish which I totally stuffed, turning what could have been a sub-90 min day into another blow out.

All in all a frustrating three days. Should've been up near the top in M35 rather than at the bottom.

Orienteering race (Easter 3 Day - Day2) 1:51:00 [4] ** 8.4 km (13:13 / km) +365m 10:51 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw - spikes

A better day in the field than Day 1 and felt good when I spiked teh first control. Unfortunately this only lasted until the second control where I took about 15 mins to go 500m after heading up teh wrong gully and trying to make it fit. Felt better and stronger in the legs and lungs for the remainder of the course, but another big error coming out of 10 (90 deg) after running with a pack of elites for a while through me and then nearly took an eye out after stepping in a hole and landing on one of those cut off saplings.

Felt weird going through last years assembly area (JWOC relays) through thigh high grass and those water melon thingys were a spin out.

Orienteering race (Easter 3 Day - Day1) 1:34:22 [4] *** 7.1 km (13:17 / km) +210m 11:35 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw - spikes

Not a good start to Easter - Big mistake on Cotrol 2 came round hill and found stands with flags on ground for Day 3 that seemed to match where I thought I was, confused the hell out of me and lost confidence I could navigate in granite, which is basically all I compete in these days. Feltr very sluggish across teh open fields with lots of grass seeds penetrating the uppers of my new shoes. Couldn't get a rhythm up and felt very slow.

The spikes fell out of my new shoes first time I used them. DO NOT by mudclaws if you want to run in Australia.

Walking (Collecting Controls) 45:00 [3]

Note

East Coast 3 Day - Middle

Controller for the day. Meant my role was reduced to handing out maps and listening to people's greivences when they came back to the finish tent. 99% of comments were positive..which was nice. People that decide to change their course on Day 3 of a 3-day event are annoying..thought about getting all Gordon Ramsay on their ass....but no.. good day at the office, no mispaced controls, no search parties..and the beer tasted sweet at the RSL!

Running 42:00 [4] 4.0 km (10:30 / km)
shoes: Salomon Trial

Re-ran some route choices at Medusa and hard quick run to dam and back.

Orienteering race (East Coast 3 Day - Long) 1:53:58 [4] *** 8.4 km (13:34 / km) +220m 12:00 / km
shoes: Silva SG Norway

Started off badly by picking wrong route choice on the very long first leg. Then picked another bad route choice on the next longest leg from 5-6 which gave me lots of unnecssarily long climb. Couldn't get into a runniing rhythm as there were lots of fallen down branches/trees etc. Lost the plot at 9 and ran straight into the green. Had the satisfaction of beating David Marshall and Peter Shaw home through the mining detail. Have some work to do before Easter.

Walking 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Trial

Putting out SI units. Absolutely stuffed aftrer this. I cracked the first beer while diving into the surf.

Orienteering race (East Coast 3 Day) 30:56 [4] **** 3.0 km (10:19 / km)
shoes: Silva SG Norway

First event at the Argonaut, first event of the year for me. Started off badly be missing 2 after misinterpreting the scale of the map (1:5000) and making a parallel error after seeing a tiger snake. Ran most of the rest of the course with Catherine who went off course at 18. Some placement of controls on green corners that were out of date made things interesting. A mediocre run, bit dissapointed couldn't pick up the pace in my local area. Finished 5-6 minutes down on Callum.
