Orienteering race (State League 1 - Verwood) 2:12:24 [4] *** 14.3 km (9:16 / km) +105m 8:56 / km
spiked:23/28c shoes: Salomon Trial

Long course at Verwood. Technically intense loops on root mound/log pile country with nno contours then long leg to next spur to do the same.

Thaought about going the weetrn route along the fence which Bob Healey thought some Course 1'ers would take but the straight option looked like the leeast stepp when it was right in front of you.

Very sloppy at the startr making an 8 min error on the first control with my head stillin teh rocky granite of Sappa Bulga. Ok until long leg then lost it in the circle at 17. was standing about 50m away from the control on a known point (pile of rocks) and just couldn't locate ot )I shoul mention teh needle from my compass was lost at this point as it popped out of its housing at 2. Lost 15 mins here

Lost the plot a bit at 24 making a 5 min error. Very tired at the end, gotta improve fitness if I'm going to tackle the Triple Tops Run! Might start riding to work, now the days are getting longer?

Orienteering warm up/down (Collectintg controls) 1:00:00 [1] ***

Sent out on two control collecting missions by course controller..

Orienteering race (Aus Relay Champs) 36:58 [4] ** 4.0 km (9:15 / km) +125m 8:00 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: Silva SG Norway

2nd leg for TAS M21AS

Bolted out after tagging Patrick W and headed through the gullys of black X's straight past the gully containing the first control.

OK to 7 where I made a top of hill- spur error by goinng too far west. A bit high on 8 and managed to run-walk up the massive hill to 10. Nearly messed up 11 by going over the spur instead of straight down it. Headed into the finish in a sprint.

In the end a bit sloppy, happy with the win which we celebated in Sydney with an Indian curry.

Overall a fairly dissapointing week of orienteering except for NSW Champs. Gotta work on exiting controls and start to use a compass to check direction when I'm not sure. in short..'Blink OFF when EXITING'!

Orienteering race (Aus Champs - M21A) 1:41:06 [4] **** 8.3 km (12:11 / km) +320m 10:13 / km
spiked:14/17c shoes: Silva SG Norway

Was going OK till 5 (splits show I was leading at this point).

Had a brain fade leaving 5 and headed for the big hill in fronnt of me after crossing the fence and leaving the mapped area. (There was a big waratah in a patch of white I wanted to see).

Got it together and headed to 6 where PatS caught me. Fanged it to 7 and 8 and made my biggest error at 9 by heading too high and missing the control completely. This was on the hill near teh car park and in hindsight should've headed straight down to the fence and then up to the control (later on I could see it from the fence.

The route to 12 up the track was a bit boring and as it was up hill I was in a bit of oxygen debt heading into 12 and ran too far up the gully reading the rocky knolls incorrectly.

Made another big error at 14 again misinterpreting the rocky spur I was supposed to be heading for as a rocky knopll further south and as such went to far around the hill (lead by PatS!)..took a while to recover from this and made another error on the way to 15 by not looking for teh rocky knoll that lead to the massive gully and instead chose the steeper option.

Got lead into teh control by a group of M16's and proceeded to drag them off to teh next control where all of them drifted too far right.

Fanged it down t he steep rocky gullies to the end where Kerrn and I had a sprint finish to the end.

Overall pretty dissapointed with the mistakes and should've had a km rate down near the eventual winner. Am I the only one to be beaten by Japanese perosn this week?

Orienteering race (Public Race - WPC2) 59:06 [4] 4.5 km (13:08 / km)

MH1 Course

Not a good day out, made a massive error at 8 and decided to go and have a look at every pile of rocks I could find..even found a speccy view of the assembly area fro JWOC long!

Was running pretty well up to 7, keeping Murray Scown in site, stoppoed too early at 7 to look for teh control in a gully, when the control was a knoll on teh sideof the gully. The unusual approach to the actual control at 7 made me exit it the wRONG WAY OH WELL.

Callum caught me at 9 and we ran teh rest of teh course together, making a few control circle errors as Callum can out-run me but doesn't seem to be able to navigate in the conbtrol circle.

Happy with the finish sprint of 0.17, best one of the carnival.

Event: JWOC 2007

Orienteering race (NSW Champs) 1:14:52 [4] ** 8.4 km (8:55 / km) +320m 7:29 / km
spiked:15/16c shoes: Silva SG Norway

Fairly decent run in the end after thinking "What is this" after the long first leg. Helped that I was not following or near anyone else for the whole course (had a late start).

Headed too far east on the way to 8 after and after doing a circle realised where I was. Neaded to be a bit faster on teh approach to teh finish but happy with teh finish sprint. Ended up with 4th..best run since Stags Head.

Kayaking - Flatwater 1:20:00 [3]

5 flathead

kept one

Mountain Bike 45:00 [3]

Scoping out new MTBO map at Scamander. Looks pretty good. Very fast in places. You have to pick the right track to get the best surface.

Lots of tracks that look the same so navigation and route choice will be paramount. That's what you want!

Theres also some very steep bits for the longer/harder courses.
