Orienteering (CATI - Waverton) 49:17 [3] * 4.9 km (10:03 / km)
shoes: Salomon Trial

Was a bit late for the event so had to mark up my own map. The whole 'get a pencil and write the control in the box thing seems a bit stingey. Surely lockable controls with punches wouldn't be too much of a stretch for the $10 entry fee? Enough rant, the area was pretty nice early on with a lap of Balls Head. Got an attack of the cbfs after navigating to a fence that was about 5m high and not clear on the map.

Saw a particularly nasty note on a commodore along the lines of please don't park here you are devauling the neighbourhood. Might park the van over there for a laugh.

Orienteering race 1:21:14 [4] ** 6.9 km (11:46 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw - spikes

This felt tough. Lots of long grass mixed with blackberry, lantana and fennel. and steep hills!. Kept thinking why am I doing this? Keep a pretty even pace going until I lost it at 4 could not make the fences fit the out-of-bounda area. OK until 9 where another brain fade happened and went too far up the gully. 11 ans 12 felt pretty remote although we were in the biggest city in Aus. Massive hill voered in thigh high grass to 15 throught the best approah was to 'kangaroo hop' Sped up towards the finish. A bit battlescarred but worth the effort.

Orienteering race 26:01 [3] *** 3.2 km (8:08 / km)
shoes: Salomon Trial

slow, slow very slow. Felt a twinge in the back after jumping down a retining wall and had to stop in too much pain. Probably had something to so with sleeping on a side slope last night.

Orienteering 1:49:21 [3] ** 9.9 km (11:03 / km) +170m 10:10 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw - spikes

Back to the scene of the epic 2007 Aus MTBO Champs. The mud was still there as were the motocross bikes. The tracks didn't make much more sense this time either, took a while to get used to the mapping of tracks, slow on the hills. Felt very remote at 14 and had to sit down at 15 and take stock of where I was. Kept plodding on, noting speical but kept the momentum rollin'.

Orienteering race (QB111- Middle) 59:17 [4] 6.0 km (9:53 / km) +130m 8:55 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw - spikes

6k's od Butterfly loops in an area without any rock at all. Spur gully with big erosion gullies down the centre. With pivot controls in the erosion gullies you were always going up out of the control. Felt really good in this one, surprising. Liked the control on the dope crop and the jelly babies!
