to the start, plus some extra warming up, leg swings etc

Orienteering race 48:49 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (28:49 @3) + (10:00 @4) 6.05 km (8:04 / km) +155m 7:09 / km

Black 'middle' distance race on Loxley. I'd momentarily forgotten how rocky and brambly the slope is and have shredded legs and a very large bloody lump on my shin as a result! Other than that it was great fun. Such a lovely spring day that I was feeling a bit excited at the start and consequently lost time on number 1. Number 2 was further down the reentrant than it should be but didn't lose any time really. Lost about 10s being hesitant at 4 and went to 35 on the way to 7. 9-10 I tried going straight before remembering that its much better to use the paths on that bit of slope. Went straight to 14 as well which is where I got the big lump on my shin and also where alex caught me up 2 mins. After that it was a bit cat and mouse with alex, a ShUOC guy and Lucy Haines (who was running really well in the rocks) for a bit, then eventually we dropped them and it was just me and alex. He'd got about 50m on me by the end but that was it. It definitely pushed me to run harder having alex around and also to concentrate more, so that I could sneak ahead every so often :-) A lovely morning out :-D

Running 6:42 [1] 0.81 km (8:15 / km)
shoes: Jalas Black (red) 3

warm down via the start to pick up our tops.

Headed off straight away to get some yummy ice cream at Our Cow Molly and visit the new born lambs and calves. Jimmy (bull calf) was only one day old and super cute :-D

Win Hill & the Breasts loop with Alex. It's been a long time since I ran this, too long in fact as it's a really nice run. Lovely day for running, quite clear so crisp views even though it wasn't that bright. Saw lots of mountain bikers and other runners out. Lower back sore at one point but overall it survived quite well. Need to make an appointment with Cass this week. Legs felt surprisingly good most of the time!

Pilates 30:00 [1]

Loads of pilates and back flexibility exercises.

I've turned over a new leaf and am going to start doing this properly again. Spring has induced me to make my body feel better!

Running 8:34 [1] 1.47 km (5:50 / km) +35m 5:12 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Terrafly

down to work. Thought about doing loops but decided just to head straight there. Bumped into Jon, Corinne and Katy near the end so walked the last bit with them.

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

Tried out the new hot yoga place. It's definitely hot! Sweated buckets. It was the yellow session (yin) so lots of holding poses for a long time. Felt like it should be really good for me :-)
Back only sore on one exercise. It's sore now though so need to be careful.

Planned to get up at 7 and do this, but I was so tired I stayed in bed an extra half hour. The I remembered I'd put washing on so hung that up and by the time I got out the door it was 8! Worked out well in the end as bumped into Oli on South Road so ran with him up through Bole Hill and down to work. Lovely morning for it and great to have some company. It did mean I ran considerably faster than my usual morning jog pace though! Good training for me ;-)

(rest day)

did a lot of rolling around on a ball. My back and glutes are a total mess :-(

a mini warm up

Orienteering race 55:19 [4] 10.15 km (5:27 / km) +129m 5:07 / km

Tim's urban o. Ace fun! Quite a few tricky controls, but I've got used to Tim's tactics of putting controls in the most obscure places possible now so it went well. There's a few bits in town that are so hard to work out where you can/can't go, a totally mapping nightmare! Loved it and ran really quite hard for most of it :-D

Collecting controls.

Probably shouldn't have done this as a blister appeared under my big toe joint during the race and it's now mighty sore.

work to Western Park for drills. Actually did a few of the drills for a change as not many there today. Then on to S10 for a shower as there STILL isn't any water at home...
