Orienteering 1:10:43 [4] 5.2 km (13:36 / km)
Red at Terrace Oaks. Nice course. Lots of good legs. The fresh snow was very slippery and very annoying. I think that added to the physical intensity. I didn't think to where some sort of spikes.
Had a coyote cross my path just before I got to control #3. Never seen one in the city before. Used to see fox at Hyland Park in Bloomington and at Long Lake Park in New Brighton, but never a coyote. We need one in our neighborhood to take out the gazillions of rabbits.
It's interesting to compare this with the A-meet last week in Maryland. There were much bigger hills in Maryland, but it was open and the combination makes the orienteering easier. Here we have smaller hills, which means more detail, and we have crazy vegetation.
Dealing with all the vegetation yesterday distracted me from everything else around me. Never really thought about it much before. I suppose it builds character.
This will be my baseline race for the year. I'll use this to see how I improve against other people through the course of the year -- assuming I make it to some other local meets.
