Day 2 Western States Championships
Today was great for me. The course was much more technical and I once again had a nice clean run. Only real loss was at number five where I followed a line of knolls that was left of the rocks I should have been on. But when that petered out, I spent only a short time realizing what I had done. It helped that others were in the area near the rocks I needed to be at. Lost about a minute and half on that one.
Altitude was not bothering me as much today, but fatigue in my legs was more of a problem. I started really feeling spent at about number 9, but managed to keep going to the finish without slowing down too much.
Excited with my results. I was slightly faster than yesterday over a longer course. And I made up seven minutes on Goril and stayed ahead of Erin to end up the Western States Champion! I went into today only expecting second place even with a good run, so it was a nice result. Thanks to all who noticed and congratulated me at the finish!

Day 1 Western States Championships, Laramie, WY
I really wasn't sure how my training was holding up. I've been feeling really slow, but also knew that I worked pretty hard over the summer. Western terrain tends to be good to me since it's not full of rocks and trees that I'm not used to.
Today I felt the altitude quite a bit and pretty much just walked the uphills, but I guess everyone else did too, because my time ended up pretty decent compared to the competition.
Plains of Despair map. No significant navigational problems at all. Stayed in contact with the map well. Lost about 2-3 minutes between number 4 and 5 when I heard somebody blowing a whistle distress signal. I only heard it two or three times, then it stopped. And it was faint so I never really figured out what direction it was from me. I reported it at the finish and they went out to look, but never figured out what it was. Everyone finished their course safely, so it might not have been an orienteer.
After today, second in my age class - 6 minutes behing Goril Jones, who I don't really expect to catch. Only a few seconds ahead of Erin Binder, so I have to be equally clean tomorrow or I will likely lose time to her.

Drills at the track for the HDR Tuesday workout. I was glad that it was drills, since I'm trying to taper a little for the weekend. And also because it was VERY hot!
Weights at the gym. I'm logging this late and honestly don't remember exactly what the workout was this day, but I'm sure it was going to the gym. I don't recall how long I worked out or even if it was morning or evening, so all of this is a guess.
