Orienteering race (Long) 2:03:00 [4] *** 8.44 km (14:34 / km) +365m 11:59 / km

Although this was my slowest race of the weekend relative to the winners, I was very excited at how it went. I thought that I was in poor enough shape that I would barely be able to move this day, but I felt fine and managed to take good advantage of the many running opportunities on the course. Took a good spill on the way to #10, after which my knee hurt worse if I was walking than running, so I jogged a lot after that (but slowly). Had hoped to beat 2 hours, but still happy to be under 15 mins/km.

Orienteering 40:00 [1] ***

Model for the Middle at Hickory Run. I seem to have lost the map, which I wrote my time on, so this is just a close approximation.

Orienteering race (Middle) 1:04:12 [4] *** 4.04 km (15:53 / km) +160m 13:16 / km

Middle at the Team Trials, Hickory Run. Felt like I had a pretty good race. Lost time leaving number 5 due to a dumb route choice that got me stuck in the green. Biggest mistake was at number 7 where I read the contours wrong and believed I need to go uphill to the control. This drew me slightly north onto a hill with distinctive white woods. The woods helped me relocate and figure out what mistake I had made. This would have been a lot worse if the vegetation had not been distinctive.

Orienteering 31:11 [1] ** 1.42 km (21:58 / km) +30m 19:52 / km

Sprint model at the Team Trials. I arrived very early due to my red eye flight, so I had plenty of time to wander the model map. I walked pretty much the whole thing taking detours as necessary to check out all of the mapping details. A few short jogs to check my pace count at the 1:4000 scale.

Orienteering race (sprint) 32:15 [4] *** 3.13 km (10:18 / km) +58m 9:26 / km

Sprint race, Lehigh University at the Team Trials. I had an early start which was nice. Since I was the slowest woman in the team trials, starting early meant everyone else was catching up and passing me, so I got to really enjoy the feeling of racing and seeing others. A really nice, complex course. I didn't make any really huge mistakes. Overshot number 4 (hiding behind the dumpster) and had to come back. Also a few spots where I wished I had run across the grass instead of down the stairs.
