Green course at Lake Accotink. For the first orienteering event in a long time, I felt pretty good. Not too many steep uphills in this park, except for getting to control 9. I don't think I could have found a good way tot hat control without the steep climb up to it. The only real trouble I ahd was going from 11 to 12. Got very turned around when crossing a stream and nothing looked correct to me on the map. Eventually started to head north and picked up a trail going on that direction. Eventually saw the swampy area but was on the wrong side of it. No matter, at least it wasn't a 20 minute leg. Ended up running the last four controls with two guys from Loudon HS. We each seemed to take slightly different routes but were ending up at the control at the same time. At one point, one of them looked back to see me running down the main trail behind him. Talking with him afterwards he was shocked this old guy was still with him. I didn't have the heart to tell him that my overall time was better than his.
