Orienteering race (sprint) 18:56 [4] 2.9 km (6:32 / km)
shoes: Brooks

Morning sprint.

Campus map, so easy navigation. I didn't make any navigational mistakes, & it felt like I was running pretty fast, but it's much harder for me to keep up with footspeed on red than on green.

Orienteering race (sprint) 20:21 [4] 2.7 km (7:32 / km)
shoes: orienteering shoes

Afternoon sprint.

More-interesting sprint in the woods around some apartment buildings. It was very similar to WIOL (fast & lots of trails), but there was one leg that was neat since it was faster to cut through among some reentrants than to go around. There was also one really long leg, but I don't think I made a good route choice since Andy's time was almost 1 min faster than mine and he went around instead of cutting through the woods (but it was open woods, not green!!).

Orienteering 39:21 [4] 4.3 km (9:09 / km)
shoes: orienteering shoes

Flying Pig middle distance.

I had a good run except for controls 10 and 13. Will write more about them later.

REALLY muddy! It was hard to run in places because the mud was so thick.

My foot felt fairly good, which was surprising & good because I found out that the Long on Sunday is 13.2 km!

Capture the Flag! 2:00:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks

Capture-the-flag at Swamp Creek w/ the orienteering group+. I ran some on my foot, which was interesting, but there was a lot of lower-intensity sneaking around through bushes that could be done :-). I did have one sprinting episode, which hurt a little afterwards...I was expecting the girl chasing me to be deterred by blackberries and puddles/swamps, but she apparently wasn't & I got caught after a bit of a chase.

There was also some jail-sitting to be done since I gracefully tripped within the first minute or so of the game, right in front of someone on the other team, when Matej and I were attempting to get across the boundary onto the "enemy" side.

Then there was some uphill crawling later, to save people from jail--and I did manage to crawl up the hill undetected--but unfortunately, everyone had already been saved when I got to the top....

Good practice moving through green at the end :-).
