Mountain biking 25:00 [1]

Miscellaneous trails for group ride at GNSCC. Nice that PS Bikes had organized this. Pretty good turnout, probably around 20 people in total.

Gravel packed in decently, and NO DEERFLIES.

Ride home from GNSCC, on the roads but on the Epic. I don't love biking along Hwy 124, even with a MTB that can hit the gravel soulders when necessary. I can't imagine why folks ride there on a road bike with skinny tires.

This province really, really, REALLY needs to get its act together and put a 1-meter paved shoulder along every road that gets resurfaced, from here on out. It would make life sooooo much safer for cyclists and drivers alike.

Overslept so limited timeframe. Did a sort of tempo run (hey, I'm fat and slow these days...) for just 5k. First km easy then steady around 4:00 pace for the rest. So. Much. Work. To. Do...

Afternoon ride to test out Katta's tri bike. We are racing in Woodstock this weekend (Katta on Saturday AM, Mia and Sofia on Saturday PM, and me on Sunday AM). Only have room for one adult bike in the van, so we will use Katta's. It's a sweet ride, nicer than mine, especially for shorter courses. More aggressive aero position, much lighter, and has Di2 shifting. All in all, a very nice bike. But I'm not used to it, so needed to get out and make sure that I can at least survive for 40km with it on Sunday.

Quite windy, which didn't help the twitchy feeling, but I managed. It'll be fine.

Now I wish that I had Di2 shifting on my bike...

Morning swim with Katta. Pretty rough conditions - similar to yesterday. But, getting better at staying relaxed in the rough stuff. Last year I'd have been much more stressed in heavy chop. Small improvements...

Bike with Katta from home to Camp Tapawingo, for annual medical staff picnic. Not particularly speedy, but decent training just to be out and spinning away.

Pirate's Cove swim.

Finally got this one done - has been on my to-do list all year.

Conditions definitely not ideal - overcast, windy, and waves of 1-2 feet. Not terrible, but certainly not wonderful either. However, it was a convenient time in the schedule, so decided to go for it. Katta and the kids boated me over to Pirate's Cove, gave me a 10 minute head start, then escorted back across the Sound.

Physically was not a huge issue, but I sure wasn't swimming straight. At all. The waves were coming in from my left-rear quarter, and they were throwing my legs all over the place. That, plus foggy goggles and challenging sighting conditions because of the waves, meant that swimming straight was totally impossible for me. The kids were laughing at one point, when within 20 seconds I managed to turn nearly 180 degrees. Sigh.

Anyway, frustrations aside, I did manage to complete the swim. But next time I'll aim for a really flat calm day instead...

Water temp 23C - very nice, still wore a wetsuit though.
