Erg 20:00 [4] 4.65 km (4:18 / km)
slept:4.5 weight:196.6lbs

5.30am: Not fully back in Philly sleep routine. Woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep, so opted to erg. A good consistent rate, good tunes, Amy McDonald to work out to. Resistance level 9, 285 calories burnt. A good start to the day.

running 39:36 [3] 4.6 mi (8:37 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:197.2lbs shoes: Brooks Adreneline 2011

9.30am: A nice sunny morning so opted for a run along the river. Feeling good having lost 6+ lbs on our trip to China and Tibet. A good pace out, had to weave around people as the Head of the Schuilkyll race was on. Out 19.25, back 20.11 with water stop at Lloyd Hall. Felt good to be out running.

Stretching 9:30 [0]

Good stretching after run.

walking 3:30:00 [1] 5.0 mi (42:00 / mi)

Beijing: Cloudy day and eventually the rain began. Exploring the hutongs north of the Forbidden City with Carol. Fun just to wander around and soak up the atmosphere, way of life and the little alleyways. An interesting city.

walking 4:00:00 [1] 5.0 mi (48:00 / mi)

Xi'an: A kind of dreich day to explore Xi'an with Carol. To cold and damp to rent bikes and cycle around the city wall, so Began with the Bell Tower then wandered aimlessly around the Muslim quarter market and down to South gate and calligraphy street. Quite the feast for the eyeballs at multiple levels. The mosque was a surprise with multiple gateways leading up to it.

Hiking 2:10:00 [4] 6.0 km (21:40 / km)

6.00 am: Tibet - Walk from camp up to Everest Base Camp 5200m (17,064 ft) to watch the sunrise on Everest. At the altitude the air is thin and with the guide, the group of us on the Tibet tour had a wonderful and slow and steady walk up to EBC. A half moon meant there was e mouth light not to really need a head torch except on some rocky parts. The 8 of us were the only people there to watch the sunrise. On the Tibetan side you see the whole mountain. The sight is so breathtaking in all meanings of the word. After about an hour there we walked back to the Tibetan tent where we had all stayed (50 min).
While the sunrise was special, the sunset the night before was spectacular. Something one will never forget. Once it was totally dark, the stars in the sky were crystal clear as was the Milky Way. Sheer magic.

Hiking 3:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (30:00 / km)

11.00am: Carol and I had a private tour along a portion of the Great Wall of China. A treat of a lifetime! Had a phenomenal guide in Robert who explained all the multitude of defensive techniques used. Although cloudy, words can't describe what an amazing piece of construction and the views, vistas, changes in elevation experienced. A day to remember.

running 41:06 [3] 4.1 mi (10:01 / mi)
slept:7.0 weight:204.8lbs shoes: Brooks Adreneline 2011

6.20am: much needed run along the river at a gentle pace to avoid hamstring tightening up. Started in dark and watched sky lighten. It is the best part of the day. Good tunes - Runrig 'The Story' Out 20.39, back 20.26 with 20 sec water stop at Llyod Hall.

Stretching 11:00 [0]

Good stretching after run.

Cycling 16:00 [1] 2.5 mi (6:24 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Bike: Jamis Coda Comp - hybrid

9.35am: Planned to cycle the loop 2x, but there was a sponsored walk on West River Dr so the first 2.5 was slow.

Cycling 1:17:23 [4] 21.5 mi (3:36 / mi)
shoes: Bike: Jamis Coda Comp - hybrid

9.50am: so instead of cycling the loop opted to go out towards Conshocken to by Aim Academy, but when I got there I was on a good groove so continued to Spring Mill station and back. Back time 43.08.

1.10pm: Race 2 warm-up and warm down

Dragon Boat Racing 2:17 [5]

1.15pm: Race 2: Not as consistent, but up against club teams so came 5th out of 7, so final race the A Division consolation race.

Dragon Boat Racing 15:00 [2]

3.50pm: Race 3 warm-up and warm down.

Dragon Boat Racing 2:10 [5]

3.55pm: Final race of the season. Good start and we really dug in, a great final race, we came 2nd down 2 seconds so we are very happy team.
We are 'Fairmount Park Commodores' and considering the average age is well over 50 and practice once a weekwe are remarkably competitive compared to the club teams that are much younger and practice several times a week. A good day.
