Note
(rest day)

Wanted to go for a run, but just feeling totally drained of energy.

Orienteering race 41:36 [4] 4.5 km (9:15 / km) +195m 7:36 / km
slept:7.0 weight:194lbs shoes: Innov8 (Yellow)

DVOA Event Washington Crossing, NJ - Green Course
A beautiful day though chilly.
Pushed fairly hard but horrible near the circle on about 50% of the controls. Need to work on this while maintaining speed.

Note
slept:7.0 weight:194lbs (rest day)

I can safely say my body was a bit sore and I am knackered! Took Heather to volleyball, walked the dog and did some chores. Not enough energy to run.

Dragon Boat Racing race 2:18 [5] 0.5 km (4:36 / km)
slept:7.0 weight:194lbs

Schuykill River Dragon Boat Festival
RACE 1 - Fairmount Park Commodores
This is what all the practice has come down to - race day.
First race of the day at 8.10am. A cold start to the day, but we raced well, but had a heck of a race winning by less than a second. Made the A Division

Dragon Boat Racing 2:23 [5] 0.5 km (4:46 / km)

RACE 2 - Men's Divison: All male boat with the Riverrunners males who we just beat in the first race. Came 5th

Dragon Boat Racing race 2:44 [4] 0.5 km (5:28 / km)

RACE 3: E Division Semi - raced with the Knoll boat as they were short of rowers. They did remarkably well considering they'd only practiced 2X. Won the race.

Dragon Boat Racing race 2:22 [5] 0.5 km (4:44 / km)

RACE 4: Fairmount Park Commodores - A Division Semi
A breeze against us. We got in a good groove and it felt great - Won the race. Some strong competition ahead in the final.

Dragon Boat Racing race 2:48 [4] 0.5 km (5:36 / km)

RACE 5: Rowed with Knoll - E Division Final
Everyone drove hard and we came 2nd which was agreat result for them

Dragon Boat Racing race 2:16 [5] 0.5 km (4:32 / km)

RACE 6: Fairmount Park Commodores - A Division Final
Felt really good to have made the A Division final, best we'd done in previous years was make the consulation A division finals.
We all felt strong and really gave it everything and had a brilliant result coming 3rd! Big time for celebration after that. It was a shame Carol was not able to participate with the race having been postponed 3 weeks because of the storm. Definitely tired after it all but the adrenalin kept one going.
A fabulous day, good weather, great teammates, fun time, and exceeded expectations in the result

Cycling 40:00 [2] 6.2 mi (6:27 / mi)

Early morning ride to the Dragon Boat Race at 6.30am
Gentle ride home in elation at 5.30pm. A long day, but what a great day.

running 32:10 [3] 4.1 mi (7:51 / mi)
slept:6.5 weight:194lbs shoes: Acis 2150

been a long week. Woke up feeling the need to get out and run - a good feeling! Run along the river alas both ways in the dark - but almost a full moon relecting on the river was pretty cool. 8.53, 7.50, 7.25, (0.34 stop Lloyd Hall - water turned off for the winter), 7.29. Felt pretty good despite some extra lbbs having slipped on this week!!

Stretching 9:00 [0]

Good stretch after run

Note
(rest day)

Rest day is not exactly the word I would have used. A long drive back from US Champs then up early for a flight to Boston to speak at a conference.

Orienteering race 1:04:29 [4] 4.8 mi (13:26 / mi) +195m 11:56 / mi
slept:7.5 shoes: Innov8 (Yellow)

US CLASSIC ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS - Moreau Lake nr Glen Falls NY Day 2
Green X 5.6km 195m climb
Quite the walk up to the start with a nice view over to Vermont from the top. Slow to #1, clear plan to #3 using the large marshes, but was vague near the control until right by circle. Lost some time to 13 as cut through woods at end and went too far north. Another great course.
I wish we could orienteer in technical areas like this more often. A really enjoyable weekend orienteering - great job by EMPO.
Look forward to returning to this area.

Orienteering 1:05:40 [4] 5.0 mi (13:08 / mi) +220m 11:33 / mi
shoes: Innov8 (Yellow)

US Classic CHAMPIONSHIPS - Moreau Lake by Glen Falls NY
Green X 5.5K 220m climb
Wow, what an area on the top plateau - brilliant very technical and the course was excellent. What few trails were fairly well hidden by leaves - you needed to look for the discs on the trees. A little hesitation on #1 - didn't go far enough. lost 4+ minutes 8-9 as i ended up further down the hill from 8. lost a minute or so at 11 as lost my concentration and did not have a clear attackpoint. Overall a great course and really enjoyed the orienteering.
Good to see Alison who flew in from CO

A day one will never forget. Glued to the web and TV watching the miracle of the Chilean miners being brought back to the surface after 67 days. We need more of this type of community to overcome seemingly impossible issues. A beautiful example for us all to be inspired by - shame our national politicians seem totally incapable of learning from this!!

Orienteering 45:00 [4] 4.6 mi (9:47 / mi) +75m 9:19 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:191lbs shoes: Innov8 (Yellow)

DVOA Event Tyler State Park - Green 5.3K
Another beautiful day. Definitely needed to get out doing some orienteering to get those brain cells going. The course was not technically hard, but Karl had done a nice job adding a liitle twist with 4 controls in the middle of the course being allowed to take them in any order. going to the first control in the box, I saw a route on what looked like a path crossing the river only to find it was a weir when I got there. As the water wasn't too deep went ofr it and it turned out so did many others. Definitely not the quickest option in the end. Slight error at 9 as I used #2 as a reference point when in fact it was slightly misplaced on the open hill and pushed me too far left. First time I had used the new ankle supports ASO that Randy Kemp had recommended. They felt good and provide good support.

Orienteering 14:05 [4] 1.8 mi (7:49 / mi) +20m 7:34 / mi
shoes: Innov8 (Yellow)

DVOA Event Tyler Park - Sprint 1.9K
A fun sprint cousre around the Montgomery Community College campus which is on the edge of the map. Had a hard time really reading the map. definitely need to practice using the magnifier on the compass more to get used to the scale adjustments.
Vadim won in a time of 11.00

Saturday Oct 9, 2010 #

running 40:45 [3] 5.0 mi (8:09 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:191lbs shoes: Acis 2150

A beautiful day. Morning run along the river 8.34, 7.46, 8.00, (0.29 stop), 8.06, 7.51. Felt pretty good. It had been a long week.

Tuesday Oct 5, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Spent the day on site at the dental school in Augusta GA. Tired by the time I got back late to Philly.

Sunday Oct 3, 2010 #

running 50:30 [2] 6.1 mi (8:17 / mi)
slept:8.5 weight:191lbs shoes: Acis 2150

Steady run along the river.
9.05, 8.04, 8.22, 8.18, 8.08, (0.34 waterstop), 8.00

Saturday Oct 2, 2010 #

running 39:45 [3] 5.0 mi (7:57 / mi)
slept:8.5 weight:190.8lbs shoes: Acis 2150

A beautiful day after the storm of last couple of days. Quite a lot of debris along the rivers edge. Still missed not having the Dragon Boat Race today.
Still feeling tired - not sure why I'm so drained.
Anyway felt the need for a run. 8.32, 7.48, 7.49, 7.29, (0.46 waterstop), 7.21
Felt good but 5 miles was enough.
