Not sure it could really be described as a rest day - far from it. A major spring clean of our basement - amazing the junk that one accumulates over the years. - promises to be a good fire for making smoore's with some of it.

running 38:02 [3] 4.5 mi (8:27 / mi)
slept:7.0 weight:191.4lbs shoes: Ascis 2130

After work run - a nice evening. Had a slight detour around the Waterworks, as there was a ton of police and security - turns out the VP Joe Biden was there. 10.16, 7.38, 1.17, 7.53, (1.16 waterstop and rest), 9.42. Ran out of gas for the last mile back. - Doing the British Heart Association diet, a 3 day diet - this is the 3rd week and seem to be losing about 2.5 lbs/week. The good part is not having the sugar/caffeine highs and crashes - you are allowed coffee, but no milk!. It was time to drop some weight as starting to feel like a slug on some orienteering courses.

Quite an evening - who would have thought the Flyers would make the Stanley Cup finals this season. Finally in the playoff's they have been playing some exciting hockey!

Note

Elk Neck
Had a very good discussion with the head park ranger. It turns out the location we wanted to use for parking can only be used by campers. More important, the park is interested in having a permanent course plus selling the maps in the park. They realize that they ore out od date, but are a lot better than what they currently have.

walking 5:20:00 [1] 5.0 mi (1:04:00 / mi)

Elk Neck, MD - Course planning. Spent a good day inthe woods checking courses for next weeks DVOA event. Still no guarantee about the parking area. I'd agreed to plan the courses after the LeHigh Univ sprints got canceled, but there was no agreement with the park onthe location for the parking. The yellow and orange courses need further work as the map is 10 years old and a numnber of things have changed. With a busy week ahead and no firm location on the parking, Janet Porter and I made the decision to cancel the event.

West Point A-Meet- Day 2: Long Event
A hot and a bit sticky as well. Upper 80's DegF. Off to a great start!! when I realized at the start line that I did not have my compass, so got a later start as a compass is really needed in this terrain. Clean to 1, misread the map on the route I selected to 2 thinking there was a trail when it stopped very quickly. The other options involved some green which turned out possibly the better option. A little to the north around control at 3. Slow along the ridge to 5 and down the the edge of the boulderfield on the first part to 6. Once through the fence it was nice running 6,7,8 and the first part up to 9. For 10 took the road option. Clean to 11, slowish to 12, tough underfoot to 13, fast to 14, then the big mistake. Somehow did not go straight to trhe finish, but when arond the lake. What should have taken 45 seconds took 2.38!! Apart form that felt orienteered okay except not thinking far enough ahead.
A good w/e.

shoes: High top 2

West Point A-Meet - Day 1: Middle Distance Race - Lake Popolopen
Hot day low 80's degF
Slow start to get into map and slight mistake at #1, when I was a bit short and below control (lost 20secs). Clean 2,3,4,5. 5-6 left the trail lower than I thought and ended up doing a parallel error. Discovered the mistake when I thought I should be at the control and I noticed a large cliff below me and realized my error. (-2min). Clean rest of course. Bar that one mistake, happy with the run.

Orienteering race 14:02 [5] 2.1 km (6:41 / km) +65m 5:47 / km

West Point A-Meet - Day 1: Sprint Event Camp Buckner
A nice mixture of some woods with around the barrack buildings and the camp. A fun course. With Alison starting 3 minutes behind me the pressure was on, so pushed hard the whole way. Only one slight mistake at # 6 which cost about 10 secs. Alison made an error art 13/14 so managed to beat her and a rare occiasion Peter Gagarin, who earleir said he was not in shape - he still had one of the fastest times!
