DVOA President's Cup Event - Warwick Park
Fun event put on by Vadim. This year Presidents cup event was a Susquehanna Stumble and Billygoat inspired event with couple of twists. The competitors run between 5 numbered windows in sequential order, but within each window there are 5 controls which can be visited in any (random) order. In additional, based on your age category, you are allowed to skip up to 3 controls in each window. (ie. I got to miss one control per box). For M21 runners they had the extra challenge of entering and leaving at the same control, i.e whatever control in the box you selected you had to go back to it before moving onto the next box. Fun course in that it meant you saw several people from different age categories on the way depending on how many controls they had to visit within each box.
Was fun deciding which control to miss then execute. Good training for a relay race, knowing when to follow and when not.
Felt good to be out, took a while to get going especially hill the hill out of the start

Morning run along the river. Tired after a fun night at WXPN seeing Philly Blico. Bumped into Kim Pele and Colleen there. It had been a while since we'd seen them at a DVOA event.
Cold 19 degF with wind chill of 8 degF. Hard to know what to wear in this temp. A bit too much clothing on even into the wind.

Morning run along the river. Very cold with wind chill at 10 degF Strong headwind.

Heard a fun thing about the cold weather. Apparently if it is over -25degF if you throw a cup of water up into the air, the water will have frozen before it reaches the ground. Would like to try that, but not sure I'd like to be in minus 25degF temp.

Run down into Wissahickon and along to Bell's Mill Road from Chestnut Hill while Heather had volleyball practice. Cold, but little ice on Forbidden Drive except in a few spots. Felt good, the hill back up to Chestnut Hill from Valey Green wasn't as bad as I anticipated.

Cold run along the river with a fierce headwind on the way out. Almost stopped me dead a couple of times. (22 degF with wind chill taking it into single digits). Had enough layers on, but the best thing was the Scottish 6 day buff which is brilliant for the neck and chin. Tired by the end.

Slow and pleasant run along the river to Strawberry mansion Bridge and back. A nice sunny day, about 38deg F.

A new year and a new start and a lot of work ahead getting back in shape from being such a slug recently. Need to start shedding a minimum of 10 lbs fast. Getting a consistent good nights sleep would help deminish the need to munch to keep the energy level going. Not sure work will be any less hectic this year.
Had a good and fun 2009 from an orienteering perspective going to some excellent events and seeing Alison compete at JWOC in the Dolomites was one of the highlights.
2010 starts in two weeks going to the Georgia Navigator Cup with Alison, so she can get the ranking points needed for JWOC 2010.
