running 47:35 [3] 5.5 mi (8:39 / mi)
ahr:141 max:157 slept:7.0 weight:193lbs shoes: Asics 2140

7.40 am run along the river before it got too hot. Overall feeling just drained, so aimed for a steady pace. Watched the triathalon with the faster ones cycling and the many still in the river by Columbia bridge. More power to them. 8.42, 8.03, 4.01, 4.46 including waterstop, 4.07 (0.5 miles) 8.09, (1.42 waterstop), 8.04.

Stretching 9:00 [1]

Good stretch after run

Note

DVOA Board meeting. A good meeting with good discussions on a number of topics. After meeting drove out to Tony (chiropractor) with Sandy F. Got a good tune up, as my neck and upper back definitely needed it, my ankle also feels better.

Alison heads off to Italy this evening for JWOC. Very excited for her. To represent your country is a great feeling and honor. Looking forward to seeing her in a week in the Dolomites.

Orienteering race 55:38 [4] 5.1 km (10:55 / km) +110m 9:51 / km
shoes: High top 2

DVOA Summer Picnic Event: Green Lane
Course 1: Green- mass start. A fun course, took some different route choices that others, partly as I wanted to run on my own and secondly was interested to see the time differences. They turned out to be good options except one short one on the way to 6. Ran a chunk with Alison and Ron Bortz. Had a terrible time with 8 a boulder which must have been within 10 m several times as the boulder was one amoung many and was partially covered with vegetation. Between 11 and 12, opted for a different route choice from Aliosn and Ron which simplied the trail route compared to their option and paid off as took 2 minutes off them on that leg.

Orienteering race 29:16 [4] 3.1 km (9:26 / km) +95m 8:11 / km
ahr:158 max:182 shoes: High top 2

DVOA Summer Picnic Event: Green Lane
Course 2: Orange A couple of legs were the same as the green course, still had a problem with the platform control. Had fun

running 28:30 [2] 3.5 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: Ascis 2130

Early morning run. It wasn't pouring with rain which was a pleasnt change - in fact blue sky! Tired, but wanted to get out so plodded along.

Orienteering 1:37:00 [1] 4.0 km (24:15 / km) +150m 20:25 / km
shoes: High top 2

Junior Training w/e Harriman, NY: Day 2 Surebridge map

Exercise 1: A technical course to learn how to simplify a detailed map. Shadowed Heather around the course, walking. She did remarkably well, though her level of concentration varied. She is getting better at planning a leg and referencing the features to the map.

Orienteering 30:00 [2] 2.0 km (15:00 / km) +90m 12:15 / km
shoes: High top 2

Exercise 2: Pace counting and fine compass work: Started with a determining our pace count over a 100m stretch of terrain both running and walking. Run 40 paces, walk 50 paces. Then Greg Balter had us execute a 2km course with a blank course on a piece of white paper, noting north. A great exercise. I was consistently too far to the right except one leg and to be honest was only in the circle on my bearing and pace count one out of 7 controls. Not good!!! Need to work on this.

A great w/e, with thanks to Carl, Bernie and Greg.

Orienteering 2:02:00 [1] 5.4 km (22:36 / km) +300m 17:41 / km
shoes: High top 2

Junior Training at Harriman NY: Turkey Mtn line-O
Training w/e organized by Carl Childs mainly for those going to JWOC, but there weren't many of us, the Childs, Campbells + Dan & Zac for the day. Exercise 1 a Line-O. Tough and technical West Point terrain. I walked it with Heather and Nick(?). They did pretty good considering it was definitely a higher level of orienteering skill than they were used to. Tired so did not do the second exercise of a green course.

Stayed at Bernie Breton's who made us very welcome. Greg Balter had the Jukola race on stream, so we got pretty addicted to following it

running 37:05 [3] 4.5 mi (8:14 / mi)
ahr:158 max:171 slept:7.0 weight:194lbs shoes: Asics 2140

Felt inspired for a run at the end of the work day. Not necessarily planning to run hard, but pushed myself. in 1st mile included the inclined path up to the pavilion behind the Art Museum. Fairly muggy, so needed to stop at 3.5 mile for water.
8.23, 7.33. 7.52, 3.44 (1/2 mile), water stop 1.23, 7.48

running 34:49 [2] 4.0 mi (8:42 / mi)
ahr:136 max:148 slept:7.5 weight:197lbs shoes: Asics 2140

Morning run with Alison. Hard to get in a flow. Generally feeling tired and body badly out of alignment especially the knees. Hoping to get to the chiropractor this week. It was good to be out running with Alison, up early before the bike race.
9.05, (waterstop), 8.28, 8.32, 8.22
A magical tennis moment as Roger Federer just won the French Tennis Open and tie Sampras for 14 grand slams!

Planned to run, but totally out of energy and plenty of chores to do. Even resorted to an afternoon nap.

Lousy day weatherwise, but a big day as Heather graduated from TPS

running 39:11 [2] 4.5 mi (8:42 / mi)
ahr:135 max:146 slept:6.0 weight:192.8lbs shoes: Ascis 2130

Woke up early and felt the urge to go for a run before the rain settles in for the next 2 days. However felt tired so just plodded along. Still plodding is better than no exercise.

running 35:28 [4] 4.5 mi (7:53 / mi)
ahr:150 max:167 slept:6.0 weight:194.2lbs shoes: Ascis 2130

Didn't sleep too well, woke up a lot of times, but was wide awake at 5.00am, coincidently thinking that it was 20 years to the date that my dad died. Hard to believe that many years have flown past already. Anyway decided to enjoy the cool weather and the clear sky. A slow start to Lloyd hall, then felt good and pushed myself hard the whole way. 8.52, 7.27, 3.51 (1/2 mile), 7.41, 7.38
