Trail Running 40:17 [3] 4.3 mi (9:22 / mi)
slept:7.5 weight:193.4lbs shoes: Brooks Adreneline 2011

8.35am: a beautiful sunny morning, 31degF but 17degF with wind chill. A big difference from the temperatures in India. Belmont Plateau. Did the run Alison and I did in Dec through the woods, but only did the 1km loop once. Managed to run up the steep part of Parachute Hill, before having to walk as concerned about sore throat and chest.

Note

Arrived back home after the 15.5 hour flight back from Delhi. A dreary damp day and suffering a bit of Delhi Belly, though luckily I did not really have a problem while we were there. Too tired to go for a run.

INDIA
Well the trip to India was an amazing experience and total sensory overload. So many contrasts and juxtapositions. Hugh and Noy's Bengali wedding in Kolkata was wonderful - a 3 day affair with some wonderful rituals as part of the ceremony. Great people, hospitality and a treat to have had the opportunity to experience.

Roads- I will never have the right to complain about roads in UK or USA again. In India the rules are ignored, it is a battle of wits and survival of the fittest, a 2 lane road can easily become a 3-5 lane road, with a oxen pulling a cart in the fast lane! As our driver said "no rules, just God". That said it works surprising well considering the sheer number of people and modes of transport used. Just go with the Flow and it seems there are less accidents than here.

The chance to see the Taj Mahal was a highlight, though I think Fitapur Sikri 40kms away was actually more impressive and the step well on the way to Jaipur was straight out of an Esher engraving. Jaipur- the "pink city" was fascinating especially the 'Junta Mantra" an observatory with a sun dial that could tell the time down to less than 5 seconds even though it was built over 200 hundred years ago. The elephant ride up to the Amber Fort at Jaipur was the appropriate way to enter such a splendid fort and palace.

After the wedding in Kolkata, we had an overnight stay in Varanasi which is one of the oldest cities in the world and a particularly holy city on the Ganges for Hindu's. By sheer luck we got a brilliant driver/guide who knowledge of the place was phenomenal. The sunset boat trip along the ghats is a unique sight.
All in all a brilliant trip and the good reminder about keeping things in perspective.

running 22:36 [3] 4.2 km (5:23 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: Acis T222N GEL-NE033

Tollygunge Country Club, Kolkata, India: I had to get at least one run in while traveling in India. An amazing country of overload of call the senses. Hugh and Noy's multi-day Bengali wedding starts this evening.
Anyway a run along the walking trail at the country club we are staying at- turns out there was a golf tournament going on so could only go 700m so did there and back 3x. Getting hot 70deg+ at 8.30am , big difference from the snow storm in NE USA!
