Running 57:17 [3] 7.18 km (7:59 / km) +167m 7:09 / km

Up power cut line trail to ridge and then south down to bluff and back home. Another slow run. Again had a hard time getting out the door, but because it was so nice, with no wind, decided to take a run while I could.
I might as well resign myself to being slow, as it doesn't look like it is going to get any better in the coming years. I have very little pep and energy in the legs, particularly on the hills. I don't know whether I haven't run enough, whether my cardiac performance is just slowing down, or both, or just the general decline of aging, or the alpha blocker I am on. In any event, it has not been particularly pleasurable running the last few months. My knees are always hurting, particularly the right. On of scale of 1 to 10, the right probably hurts at a 5 and the left at a 3. Made much worse on concrete or pavement, but even very hard packed dirt now is uncomfortable. I have gotten so I almost prefer a brisk longer walk than a slow jog. Never thought I would see the day. But I have to keep things in perspective. When I saw that I was M 69 on Jan first, it really gave me a start. 69. That's almost 70, which is really getting up there. So although I whine, I am probably still in better shape than 95% of the 69 year olds. It has become a much harder chore to get out and do some exercise, though. It used to be hard to get started, but then started feeling good after 10 minutes or so. Can't really say that is the case now. I can see why so many people become couch potatos.
Which also got me to thinking of getting older and what I might die of. My 2 goals are to keep my ambulation (not in a wheel chair, or need assistance to get up, go to the toilet, etc.) and my mind. I think I may have more control of the former than the latter. Although I don't know of any strong family history of dementia, it can sure happen to anyone.
As to the cause of death, I think a cardiovascular basis, either an MI or CVA, is unlikely. I have good lipid profile, am on a statin and aspirin, exercise, have never smoked, have a normal blood pressure, a desirable weight, and eat a good diet, with lots of fruits and veggies, fish, a glass or red wine, and avoid junk food and refined carbohydrates as much as possible. Some cancers are unlikely, such as lung, bladder, laryngeal, because of not smoking. My colon has been polyp free, so colon ca is unlikely. I don't drink to excess or have not had hepatitis, so liver ca is not likely. Thyroid and prostate ca can certainly occur, but most likely will not be life threatening. Lymphoma, leukemia, kidney, brain and pancreas cancers can definitely be lethal, and usually occur sporadically, so that is a likely way to go. Dementia and the dwindles also are possible.
Oh well, I would like to be an M85 or M90 orienteer but only time will tell.
