Day 1 at Cle Elum. Pretty good run on brown course. No major errors. A few hesitations and bobbles, and a couple of times was thinking of bailing out, but went another 10-20 meters and saw the control. Not a bad course. Some of the control points were a little vague, side of a long hill, a miniscule dot knoll, a couple of edge of thickets. All 4 could really be considered someplace in the forest, as the features were not at all distinct. The map shows its age, as the vegetation and trails could not be relied on. Fortunately, the contours are quite good, and that is all I really paid attention to. Was first in brown when I left, about 9 minures ahead of Fred Veler who was in 2nd place on brown.
This was a junior run meet, and for not having put on an A meet before, went pretty well, although if judged by standard criteria, a little shaky. It seems like a lot of stuff was done at the last minute and it shows. The starts had to be delayed for an hour, and a few other things, but I think the juniors deserve a lot of praise for what they have accomplished.
