Running 1:02:00 [4] ** 7.02 km (8:50 / km) +228m 7:36 / km
ahr:125 max:152 weight:76.7kg

Briones trail run. Usual first part out Orchard trail and then Pine tree trail. Then I caught a small trail just past a couple of ponds and got into some neat woods. There was supposed to be an indistinct trail down a spur connecting to the Alhambra Creek Trail, but it was really indistinct. I went down it about 20 meters, and then saw why. The rangers had put up a fence acrosss the trail. I clambered over the fence, and went on down the spur. The trail was very indistinct, and the madrone leaves on the ground were really slippery. Finally I came to the end almost where it joins up with the big trail, and there was another fence. This one I could get around by crossing a couple of reentrants, just as they joined where the fence was. Now I know why the trail was so indistinct. Even the deer have stopped using it. Nice run. I tried to push it a bit on the uphills, but the push has mainly gone. I certainly can't say I am a runner any more, hardly even a jogger. I tried to push, but the spring in the step just wasn't there. I guess Old Man Plodding is about one step above Dead Man Walking. Got back about 6:00pm. The sun had set at 5:30, and it was getting dark, and most of the other hikers and mountain bikers were rolling into the parking lot ready to head out. 491 cals.

Jill is up at Sea Ranch waiting for the delivery of a new refrigerator. They only deliver on Thursdays there, and I had to come home on Tuesday to work today, so she is there by herself. I was going to go get some Chinese food, but the thought of ribs at Bo's became overpowering, and I just couldn't resist. Great ribs. Plus they were playing a CD by Al Green, probably Al Green's Greatest Hits.

Weight training legs 4:00 [3]
rhr:152 weight:76.7kg

Could only do 43 pushups. Maybe the extra pounds are adding up. My waist is definitely up to 32.5, so the extra weight is not lean body mass, but fat. Got to cut back. Bad timing as the US Champs are this weekend, and I'm all porked up.

Spinning 35:00 [3]
ahr:131 max:161

Waist up to 32.5!! Maybe it's the different tape measure, maybe because I measured in the afternoon instead of in the morning. Let's hope it's not real.

Anyway, it encouraged me to get on the bike, which I was resisting doing because I just felt lethargic. I went 5 minutes over my minimal goal of 30 minutes, but at least I did something.

48 pushups. 4 min of squats.

Running (Trail) 1:18:00 [4] 9.33 km (8:22 / km) +257m 7:21 / km
ahr:132 max:154

Cals 685
Sea Ranch. Ran to chapel trail then up into Gualala Redwoods property. Still looking for the connector trail at the top of the ridge I used to take to get to Deerfield Rd. Ended up wandering off trail in a logging area again until I found the logging road I was looking for, but by that time, I was getting tired and decided to head back. Took a short cut down a spur on the way back to pick up the chapel trail again.

Weight training legs (Squats) 4:00 [3]
weight:75.7kg

50 pushups
Almost 8 chinups
Waist 32. Got to watch what I eat, as I'm at the threshold of spilling over the 32 inch waist mark.

Walking 35:00 [2] 3.5 km (10:00 / km)

CCRMC to downtown Martinez and back.

Weight training legs (Squats) 4:00 [3]

46 pushups
7 chinups
Wt 167, waist 31.75. My weight is up, but the waist is not increasing, so hopefully that means more lean body mass.
128/79 pulse 57

Walking 35:00 [2] 3.2 km (10:56 / km)

Walked from CCRMC to downtown Martinez for lunch, and then back. Legs still achey from my big unexpected run on Tuesday.

I'm feeling very tired these days. I get home, and just want to collapse and watch a little TV. I've been getting 7to 7.5 hours of sleep a night, so don't think that is the problem. I have been working more than I want. Will have had only half a day off in the last 2 weeks--too little for an old partially retired fart like myself. Looking forward to this weekend--4 days at Sea Ranch with nothing special to do. Then I just work one and a half days next week, and am off to VA for the champs. Will probably come back totally exhausted again late Sunday night, though.

I have a hearing test next week. I am really getting deaf. I am missing dialog at movies and at plays, and my kids ask me to turn down the TV and radio. Jill and I have these weird conversations, where each of us is trying to figure out what the other said, and the response is not exactly appropriate to what was really said. She is getting a hearing aid next month, and I am sure I will need one also. I figure glasses are no stigma, so why should a hearing aid be one. I really don't care about the appearance--I'm just tired of having to ask people to repeat what they said.

Running (Trail) 1:33:38 [5] 11.0 km (8:31 / km) +421m 7:09 / km
ahr:129 max:144

Briones. Got off work 30 minutes early so decided to go for a run at Briones. I wanted to do about an hour run, so decided to take a new trail to make a slightly bigger loop. Unfortunately, I only had the park trail map and not my orienteering map. It was much longer and much steeper than I had expected. Was out for over an hour an a half, and it was getting dark by the time I got back to the parking lot. In fact, the park police just arrived, and began to ticket the 2 other cars which were still there. I can see why we have not orienteered in that area before. This was steep even by Briones standards.

BP 121/67, pulse 61.

50 pushups, 4 minutes of squats.

Orienteering race 1:06:09 [5] 3.8 km (17:24 / km) +120m 15:02 / km
ahr:145 max:169

Boggs Mountain Day 2. Lot of bobbles and several significant errors, one 5 min on 7 and a 6 min error on 8. The latter I saw the elongated dot knoll, climbed up on it and looked around and could not see the control. I thought it was at the NW corner, but it was the SW corner. Meanwhile, Clark Maxfield had come in just after me and found it while I spent 4-5 minutes trying to locate it. Came back to the same knoll and this time saw the faded back off the SW edge of the knoll. Ended up 3rd in M65, but did not feel real good about the run.

Actual distance run 5.33k 65 m climb

Orienteering race 52:31 [5] *** 3.8 km (13:49 / km) +120m 11:56 / km

Boggs Mountain day 1.

Nice woods. Good course by George.

Generally a pretty good run. Had one 5 minute error on 7. Went too low and far and hit the trail. Took me a short while to figure where I was at. Used the trail bend as an attack point and found it. I must have been very close going down the hill.

3rd on brown and M65 after Don Davis and Fred Veler. Nosed out Rich Parker by 10 seconds.

Weight training legs 4:00 [3]

50 pushups.
6 chinups.

Otherwise a rest day for our A meet tomorrow.

Drove up this afternoon. Raining and slow traffic, particularly caused by a bad accitident on I-80 in Vallejo. It looked like a cop car had smashed into somthing and did a 180.

Went up to the event site at 5:00. The mountain top was in a cloud, so the fog was very dense. Could not see 50 meters. Hopes it clears by early tomorrow when I go out.
