Had a little run at the GKI Trail run today. Nominally 27km of beach, hilly rocky trail, and a few smooth trails in between. My spidey-sense started tingling at the 21km mark that the course was actually only 26km - and I hate being short changed. So I did what any self- respecting trail runner would do and turned the wrong way. In hindsight, adding an extra 4km and a few extra hills at this point was not likely to improve my position in the race (comfortably 4th at the time). This was compounded when I totally ran out of gas at 27km, and started cramping badly at 28km, both comfortably after I should have finished. 29.9km for me by the finish line… Oh well - gave the RRR gang a good laugh at the orienteer who can’t even follow pink tapes!

Arrived late for the first RRR Side of Origin run, which was bad, because it was a new course due to the Rocky (not horror) show being on. Started quite hard, hoping to be able to see people in front when we hit the part of the course I didn’t know, but got caught in a gap between 3rd place and everyone else and guessed wrong. Slowed down at the 5km mark, by which time it was obvious I hadn’t gone on the right course. Felt like I could have held the pace for quite a while, but want fresh legs for Sunday. Soon after, Rhys came past in the other direction, and when Blase did likewise, I turned and ran to the finish with him. Hardish, but easier than I had been going. Pretty happy with that. 19 minutes suddenly feels achievable again.
