Well... that was harder than what I had planned. Headed out through Bluff Point and Sunset and out into the dunes to have a bit more of an explore.
Felt OK without being particularly sparky early and enjoyed the first half. Out past the wastewater treatment plant, then tried a path that went a long way, then hit a T junction, but both parts of the track disappeared, so ended up zi-zagging my way through the dune scrub till I hit the access path. That was boring, so headed out towards the beach, kind of knowing I was over-reaching, but not wanting to go back the way I had come.
Ended up at Glenfields Beach and then wandered my way along some more sand tracks and duney bits until I came out near the corner of Glenfield Beach Rd and Chapman Rd.
It was pretty hot and disgustingly humid and I had ditched my soaked singlet by this point. I was also aware that I was a few km longer than planned and even further out by time, as the sand and bush running had blown the km rate out of the water.
Really glad I had packed my left over gels from a couple of weeks ago. None left any more. Ran out of water 5km from home and was pretty cooked by the time I finished. A cold shower helped things a bit, but I was soaked in sweat again within a minute of getting out.
Might be taking it a bit easy for the rest of the day.
Other point of note is I faced up to the fact that my running shoes are dying and combined with the rebuilt orthotics are contributing to things not feeling quite right, so pulled out a new pair today. Seemed to help quite a bit.
