Orienteering 55:00 [2] 7.0 km (7:51 / km)
shoes: roclite 285

2 loops pulling in controls. Brian A was kind enough to get the rest. Even went pretty smoothly with reasonable numbers. Lovely weather for a picnic but a bit hot for running.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [2] 10.0 km (9:00 / km)
shoes: roclite 285

Putting out controls for Whiteman Park event. Elastic belt for SI bricks and light stands meant I could do loops of 8 controls without carrying a pack, so I did the lot in three loops and got home somewhat eariler than I was expecting.

run 1:10:14 intensity: (50:14 @2) + (20:00 @4) 16.02 km (4:23 / km)
shoes: Hoka Rapa Nui

First run in my birthday present. Had emailed Sports Fever who assured me they had the new tarmac model of Hoka in stock, but either they didn't or the sales assistant was an idiot. Anyway, I am too impatient to wait, so I ended up with Rapa Nui trail shoes. They were pretty comfy but rubbed a little on one of my little toes. Quite soft, but didn't feel as pillowy as the ones I trialled a while back. I could almost imagine trying them on a trail, which might be a good thing, coz the tread will look like a tarmac model in no time if I keep putting sessions like today into them...

3.3km WU, 10 x 2:2, 2.8km CD.

Didn't have distance on display so I wasn't tempted to chase something unreasonable. Felt pretty hard by the end, but looking at the numbers afterwards was a little disappointing. Flying I was not.

Knee felt the sorest it has for a while early on. Then I started focusing on running with decent technique. And funnily enough, despite feeling like I was getting slower each rep, I actually ran faster in the second half and my knee stopped hurting completely.

Will probably try to get a tempo session in the first half of next week, then start my 'taper' and pray I don't fall apart in the big race.

run 54:08 [2] 10.88 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: x-talon 190

After running on the Jindalee trails the other morning led to my shoes filling with so much sand that I had to take them off to empty mid run, I thought I'd better try the x-talons on the beach to see if they'd be a better option for (not)Anaconda.

From school, down to Quinns beach, along the sand to Jindalee, mixing up some soft and harder sand, then unsuccessfully looking for a drinks tap after climbing the closed staircase (naughty naughty) up the the kiosk and playground.

On the return leg I was happy to getmy feet wet and tried various lines up and down the beach to try to find the best comibnation of firm footing and water not getting too deep when the waves washed in. I figure the best footprints to follow on race day will be the ones I can't see.

About to check back through Toomses log to rack his 'brain' on the issue.

run 59:40 [2] 12.83 km (4:39 / km)
shoes: Saucony Cortana Fluoro

Cruise from work out to YB track and south from Hester. Turn around at 30 min and return. Felt really good this morning. Now I just need to squeeze in a couple of harder runs to remind myself what runnig fast feels like.
