2 PM

run warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Kswiss somethings

Decent warm-up before MetrO race. Pity I didn't try to warm up my brain at the same time.

To annoyed with myself after the race to go for a cool down. Will probably pay for that tomorrow.
3 PM

Orienteering (MetrO ECU Joondy) 18:02 [3] *** 4.0 km (4:31 / km)
spiked:16/22c shoes: Kswiss somethings

Crap. Took the first one slowly, looked at the description, thought it looked like the symbol for a thicket, but figured they don't have any of those on sprint maps, so it probably meant something else so ignored it... and spent a while walking around on an overpass when the control was on the lower level on the corner of a garden bed. Live and learn.

Ran hard through the next few figuring my race was over anyway so I may as well try to run hard and get something out of it. Got distracted coming into 4 by the people unloading a courier van and developed tree-specific blindness and dropped another 10-15 seconds. OK through the next section although missed a couple of route choices by not being prepared to straight line it through the bush. Stopped short on 12, looped around and back to 16 (same control) and screwed it up again. Very indecisive to 17 and doubled back on myself a bit. Apprently bad enough to drop another 15 seconds. Hammered through to 20, then misread the corner in the underpass and lost confidence to 21, then was totally disorientated coming out of it and didn't figure out where I was until I was more than half way to the last. Hope the finish split is OK. If it's not I might as well give up.

Also dropped a few seconds on a few controls trying to get the stupid cable out of the way so I could actually punch the controls.

Don't know how I've gotten so much worse since UWA.

Note

Knee pretty sore on the way home, but given that I played basketball yesterday, and footy and International Rules for about 45 minutes today, that's not surprising. Amazing how much the recovery from school stuff has been aided by icing more regularly instead of sitting and whingeing.
6 AM

cycle (commute) 1:02:20 [3] 29.0 km (2:09 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Legs felt marginally better this morning and I ws runnign a little late, so pushed a little harder. Apparently it was a deceptive feeling. Certainly didn;t go any faster. One more commute to go...
4 PM

cycle (commute) 1:05:30 [2] 29.0 km (2:16 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Felt pretty knackered and the can't-be-arsed factor was sky-rocketing before I left, but taking a few minutes to get the bike out and have a drink before I got rolling I managed to have a mood transplant and decided to roll home nice and easy. Actually really enjoyed it, and it was less slow than I was expecting. Might even ride my bike again some time next week.
Been a while since I've ridden 260km in a week. It's certainly less taxing on the body than running, but the lack of sleep this week has been tough.

7 AM

cycle (commute) 1:02:25 [3] 29.0 km (2:09 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Nice morning for it. Taking longer and longer for the legs to get going each day. Started to feel OK after about 35 minutes this morning... Getting a lift home tonight so I can go shopping with the girls. Oh the excitement of shopping with a pair of 4 yr olds :)

A bit tired, very hungry. Took it pretty easy.

Look at that horrible yellow training log :(

6 AM

cycle (commute) 1:02:00 [3] 29.0 km (2:08 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Felt much colder this morning. I was a wuss and rode the first 20 minutes with my jumper on. Going to be interesting tryin gto take it easy on the way home so I still have some legs left for hills tonight. I predict a bail on the running...
11 AM

run (Beep tests) 20:00 [3] 3.5 km (5:43 / km)

Another 2 beep tests back to back. 11.5 and 10.10 were the 2 I had to beat this time, so not too tough. Knee not the happiest, but not quite in the normal tendonitis spot. HAven't run in the Reeboks for longer than I can remember (they were retired a long time ago, but live on at school as my spare pair and I can't fit another ppair in my bag with the laptop)
4 PM

cycle (commute) 1:04:25 [3] 29.0 km (2:13 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride home. Started hardish as I was 15 minutes late leaving and wanted to have a little time at home before heading to running, but needed to stop to change my undies after a moron tried to turn left through a bike lane without indicating. Flat spotted my tyre. The layer under the rubber is purple on my Continentals if anyone was interested. Was a bit wary on the downhills after that as I didn't really fancy a high speed blowout, but made it home in one piece with only one other near death experience for the trip.

Got home and had to shelve running plans as Penny had a worse day again with hte cold that none of us can shake, so needed the car to get some takeaway for dinner.

Seeing as I curled up in a ball on the floor before 7pm and had a little nap, it may have all been for the best. Could be a long week.

Vastus Medialis is struggling a little with the sudden cycling load.

Note

Wore a HR monitor for the ride in just for laughs. average of 122... must have been riding about as hard as I walk...
6 AM

cycle (commute) 1:01:30 [3] 29.0 km (2:07 / km)
ahr:122 max:149 shoes: Avanti Blade

Felt terrible as expected. Struggled all the way and felt like I was always a gear or 2 lower than normal just to keep the legs spinning. Turns out the time was not so bad. Maybe being in a lower gear was more a result of almost all my recent riding being on a windtrainer where I probably spin my legs a little faster than my usual high gear grind on the road. Not really looking forward to repeating the dose this arvo, or tomorrow, or Wednesday...
4 PM

cycle (commute) 1:04:15 [3] 29.0 km (2:13 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Could have done without the south westerly this arvo. Generally felt OK, but legs felt pretty sore when I had to stop at lights and wait. Tired now. Don't know how I'm going to hold up for the rest of the week. I think I'd be enjoying it if I was healthy.

Note
(sick)

Pretty much felt like crap all weekend, so after being woken up 2 minutes before my alarm on Saturday by daughter #1 and promptly turning the alarm off and sleeping in, I did nothing.
Had another sleep in today, then decided a long run would be counterproductive, given how rubbish I felt and the fact that I'll be riding my bike to work all week (after hardly riding for months) as the car will be at the panelbeater.
Bye bye fitness.
