paddle 48:06 [3] 7.49 km (6:25 / km)
shoes: Spirit PRS plastic

T'was a hot, still evening and after being cooped up inside all day getting sweaty, I decided I wasn't going to sleep until I had done something, and I wasn't doing anything which didn't involve water.

So I went for a little pootle paddle on the river. Banks Reserve, around Heirisson Island and back. Distracted myself by pondering my beauty in the mirror-like river...

Felt a little rusty.

Note

Ok... so looking at trace... started a bit fast (as a bunch of people who had clearly had a sneaky peek at their map bolted off in front of me). Lost about 15 seconds trying to decide whether I could go through the uncrossable fence on the edge of the tennis courts, lost about a minute and 300m only going to 24 twice... 20 seconds running past 15 not seeing it lying on the ground, 7 seconds doing the same at ?19?, about 30 seconds not seeing 12 and wondering whether than was the one that Rachel said was on the other side of the road or not... about 10-15 seconds getting direction wrong at 4, and a solid 30 seconds by running down the wrong road leaving control 3...

That's 3 and a bit minutes of screwing up. tRicky beat me by 4, so either his non-running training has improved his pace significantly in the last 2 months, I'm getting slower, my route was worse than I thought...

Pace was pretty crap though kms 5 and 6. Was making mistakes and suffering in the heat. Hmmm. Dunno if it's worth doing th 10km road race next weekend. Meant to have a 5km time trial on Tuesday too. Blah.

run warm up/down 35:00 [2] 6.5 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Nike Equalon 2

Did a proper warm-up for once and collected a few controls after.
5 PM

Orienteering race 36:09 [5] 8.38 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Nike Equalon 2

Hot. Frustrating. What is happening to my pathetic brain when I run. Strung together the first 10 or so pretty well, then made a major (500mish) screwup going to get a control that I already had... Three little misses where I just didn't see the control, then a poor choice of controls near the end, followed by leaving a control down the wrong street again and adding on another 250ish metres. Did 1000m more than tRicky and Ben and a km more than Wil.

cycle 57:24 [2] 27.5 km (2:05 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride home after dropping off the car for a service. The silly things we do to maintain a 2 yr extended warranty...

Had wanted a longer ride, but legs felt pretty stuffed and had to get home in case Penny's doctor appointment got moved... will find out whether a hospital stay is necessary tonight... :( and she thought it was just an upset tummy from running...

Oh. Weatherman suggests it may have been closer to 35 than I thought. Oh well. Didn't feel like it got to me that much, though certainly sweated buckets for a while after I stopped.

run intervals 54:41 intensity: (13:37 @1) + (27:17 @2) + (13:47 @5) 11.14 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Nike Equalon 2

Well, it was always going to be a struggle doing intervals 3 days in a row, but that's what I'd left myself with, trying to get things back into a weekly routine and having both Sunday and Monday off...

Decided to try out something I hope to do regularly once school starts, seeing as I was in doing a bit of work today and warmed up from school down to the 400m track on Ridgewood Oval, did intervals and ran back to school. Should become the regular Thursday morning dose of pain for Term 1.

Didn't really know where to start, so plonked for 10 x 400m @ 5km pace with 200m jog recovery, as that's pretty easy to keep track of on a 400m track. Decided to pretend I can still run 17 flat for 5km, despite recent evidence to the contrary and off I went aiming for 81.6's

Bad things: Grass is soft, it was hot, that wasn't my 5km pace, 3rd interval session in a row = tired legs from the outset...

Good things: soft grass = very little knee pain, it was nowhere near the 35 degrees forecast, the breeze at my back made the pace feel comfortable for 100m of each effort, even if it was a struggle down the straight into it, and I held my times pretty well (all be it a second or 2 off target).

I'm pretty sure I used to do that session quite easily on 80's or high 70's, but maybe the recoveries were longer, and I haven't done short intervals for about 6-7 years, so I'm pretty happy

Windtrainer 1:02:04 intensity: (13:12 @1) + (13:00 @2) + (28:44 @3) + (7:08 @4) 0.0 km
ahr:130 max:157 shoes: Avanti Blade

10 min warm-up
7 x (5:2)
few min cooldown

Same old... Looking forward to a little variation in windtrainer sessions (and a bit of consistency in terms of actually doing them again :) )

run 1:10:14 intensity: (43:14 @2) + (27:00 @5) 15.77 km (4:27 / km)
shoes: Asics 3000

Couldn't make it to group intervals tonight, so headed out after the kiddies went to bed to finish the fartlek sequence. 3 on 90 sec recovery x 9.
Think I went a bit hard too soon. Was feeling pretty dead by half way. Second half of rep 7 and 8 were particularly pathetic. Oh well. Time to start the real training again - better roll out the bike and get going again. 3 x per week just isn't going to cut it any more.
